I was one of the lucky owners who got their Contis replaced for free with a set of Comfortreds. The Comfortreds were, by far, the most comfortable and most plush tire I've ever driven on. The downside, which I could not live with, was the handling (or should I say lack of it). These tires were some of the worst (and scary) handling tires I've had. I took advantage of Goodyear's 30 day guarantee, and swapped for TripleTreds. I cannot say enough positive things about the TripleTreds. By far, the best tire I've ever owned. Handling is 98% of what the Contis were, the ride is 100% better, and 99% less road noise. Plus, they look great on the car! If these tires last the 80,000 miles they're supposed to, then these are the buy of the century. I'd highly recommend these if you are in the market to replace tires.

I am one of the semi-lucky owners who just got their severely cupped Contis with 19,000 miles replaced for free (I did have to pay postage and handling, i.e. mounting and balancing of $77.50) with a set of the same "Contis". I decided that the cost and time of swapping them out for Goodyear Comfortreads was not worth the bother. My question however is what problem is with the "handling" characteristics of the Comfortred. Is this something only a hot rodder would care about, and us 60+ old farts would never notice?.

No, the handling characteristics of the Comfortreds would be unnerving to anyone who drove the car. My Goodyear guy told me that the combination of the tire design (geared toward maximum absorbtion of bumps and road imperfections) and the fact that the Vibe is a "tall car" with a higher center of gravity makes for some spooky driving. Trust me, I'm 39, and I don't drive like a bat out of hell, and I was unnerved driving the car with the Comfortreds. I was ready to settle for putting RS-As on it, and dealing with the crappy treadlife that tire offers. If you can find a way to swap the Contis for the Tripletreds, you won't go wrong. Plus, with the lack of tread noise the Tripletreds give you, you'll preserve your hearing and your sanity!

The tread depth on my original Conti's were fine - at 19,000 they still looked fine [perhaps 8/32nds] But they were markedly "cupped" at 12,000 miles and therefore noisy. The replacements seem a-o.k To trade for Goodyear would cost probably $275-300 before I was done. I put about 6,500 miles a year on my Vibe. These Conti's should last until I trade it in. If they again show cupping at 12,000 miles I will again complain.

I had the Comfortreds on for about 2 weeks on my Matrix...I found them to be pretty floaty but pretty quiet and comfortable..well somewhat..never got balanced correctly.I traded them in on some Michelin HydroEdges(similar to Triples) and I loved them for a week....they have slowly gotten very loud and sound like they are cupping already not to mention vibrations have crept in...Not sure what is going on there but I'm not happy Since I already traded in once at Town Fair I may be stuck with tires.....making a "helicopter noise" that is more evident at slower speeds...Also have notice the shoulders look a bit worn but Ive only had em 2 or so weeks! Maybe Michelin can halp on their 30 day guaranteeAny ideas?
We put the HydroEdge tires on my wife's Jetta TDI - and loved them. They are the third set of tires we have put on her car and we put them on around 100,000 miles and she now has 155,000 miles on her car and I expect the HydroEdge to go another 40,000 or so. They are really good tires in our experience and we liked them so much that I put them on my Chevy S-10 truck where they have worked fine. We have never had any cupping or wear problems with the HydroEdge tires and I was hoping to be able to buy them for my Vibe - but the 17" wheel change will prevent me from getting HydroEdge tires as they are not made in the 215/50-17 size. The tread surface on the HydroEdge is very flat and the shoulders are not rounded over like peformance tires - so I did notice that the edges do round of on the front tires during use. These tires are also a little louder than tires we have owned that are not shaped with the V pattern to disperse water - and the extra noise is really noticeable on concrete pavement joints and especially on concrete pavement that has been ground to include grooves for water dispersion. I do not notice them to be any louder on asphalt pavement or concrete that is smooth.Sorry to hear you are having trouble with them....our experiance with them has been very good.Dave
