Hello to all...In colder weather I have a hard time getting into 1st gear. It gets better when the car is completely warm. Even on warm days the gear box is real “sticky†or “notchy†through all gears, it is not smooth shifting between gears. Is this normal?
Hi Gator...Yes, the gears are notchy... I ended up changing out my manual tranny fluid before my first Winter in the car. Unfortunately, I changed to Mobil stuff, made it even worse in colder weather. As soon as I could, changed to Redline MT90 tranny oil and ever since has been much better, almost like a different tranny. People here recommend the Redline stuff and AMSoil stuff. Changing to one of these will yield a much better result. And if you're still on the original gear oil after 30,000 miles or so, you should change it anyway. Some say that with Redline or AMSoil you won't have to worry about the gear oil again. I did, however, change mine again at around 60,000. It's not too expensive nor too difficult to do every year or 2. There are several relatively recent posts on the oil itself and some older posts on how to do the change.Dave
I live in Westland MI, I'm running mobil 1 without any cold weather issues. The only issue I'm having with the trans at this time, I can't float my transmission into 5th gear.Thats ok, I don't really use it much anyway!
