Lost my jobby job.

Post by redlava »

I was just informed today that our warehouse and customer service department will be moving from our building in Iowa to Boston. So as of April 15 I will no longer have a job at my company, unless I want to relocate to Boston...yeah right! Our company is one of many others that are headed by one corporation, most of which are based in that area of the country already. So I guess it was just a matter of time before it happened. Economically it is a bad move for them because it is WAY cheaper for us to send our product out from Iowa than it is from the east coast. Something to the tune of 30% less. Even to states like Florida or the Carolina's. So that leads me to believe that they are going to slowly consolidate everybody in our company out east so it will be easier to sell us at a future date. The only good things to come out of this will be me not having to set up a crap load of racking to accommodate the book volume that we were expecting to have this year that we didn't have room for anyway. And I won't have to use our antiquated pathetic excuse for inventory software anymore.I will miss the place though. Not quite as much these last couple of years ever since we got bought out by HCC. But it was a good place to work at and a lot of fantastic coworkers.

That sucks, hope you find a new and better job soon. At least you have a couple of months notice. My company is thinking of moving my job to south carolina. I've got nothing against SC, other than I'll quit before I move there. I am thinking I need to start looking for a new job now, this one's been getting pretty stale for a while now. Maybe a new job will be new things to learn, something to shake me out of the rut and apathy that I have fallen into lately. So good luck and I hope it turns out to be an opportunity instead of an adversity for you.

That sucks man! I hope you can do what Joatmon mentions, and maybe have this be a change for the better. Hang in there and I'm sure you can find something.

Thanks everybody. The company I work for, Buckle Down Publishing, makes test prep material for standardized tests for schools. I have been there for over seven years. It was privately owned up until a year and a half ago when we were bought out by a very large company with several other publishing companies under their umbrella. When it was under private ownership it was the best job I ever had. Things have pretty much gotten steadily worse since then as far as the morale in my area. Things definitely are not the same.Right now I am not sure what I am going to do. I really enjoy working in a warehouse environment, makes me feel like I am actually doing something worthwhile, not sucking up space in an office somewhere. Right now I am seriously thinking about moving to Omaha to be closer to my sister. There is a company out there called Professional Veterinary Products that she says is a great place to work for, so I might try that. Beyond that no idea. I do have an associates degree in Computer Aided Drafting, I might go back to school but I never did much like that field.

Sorry to hear about the job situation. You know, you have Cargill about an hour or so down the road from you in Eddyville, they might be looking for people. that is, if you want to work for Cargill. One of my friend's worked at the Eddyville location and drove to Iowa City two nights a week for MBA classes.Anyhow, just a thought. Good luck in whatever you decide.
