Ever since I've had my car I have only been running 89, but my better half is running 87. Not really and differance, mine has been running low mpg but I just need to change my cone filter on my intake. I will wait until the snow is all gone though.
From my '05 owners manual:"If your vehicle has the 1.8L L4 (VIN Code 8) engine, use regular unleaded gasoline with a posted octane of 87 or higher."It then warns about using gas below 87 octane. It seems that 87 is a "threshold" or absolute minimum for the base Vibe as well as most other vehicles on the road.I'm sure for most of us, and for average driving conditions, 87 octane will be fine. But for those in hot, dry locations, or those who drive their cars pretty hard, a higher octane may be beneficial.
it doesn't matter if you run the hell out of it or baby it like a grandma, there is no benefit from using anything higher than 87 octane on the base. it's been discussed here way too thuroughly.of course, there will be those that claim, "i don't care what you say, i noticed a difference when i used premium. i got better mileage and it seemed a bit peppier" believe what you want, but for a cheaper price, my engine will run just as good with 87 octane as any other non-gt with the most expensive gas money can buy.
