It looks like G.M. may finaly be removing their craniums from their rectal cavities! The concept photos of the new camaro concept have been leaked, and I like what I see. The GTO is a nice car and all...but.....kinda vanilla when you look at the Dodge Challenger concept and the new Fraud Rustang. Fraud really led the way in resurecting classic styling cues for their pony car and really continued down the path that lead to the death of the G.M. F-body cars (i.e. solid chasis, and an interior that is roomy with a USEABLE backseat). Maybe Dodge will get the challenger right and not turn it into a 4door abortion like the charger! C'mon, you cant call a 4door a "Charger"! What's next, a 4door hatchback "Road Runner"?Anyway, here is the camaro. Lets just hope they do a Firebird and a NEW new GTO in the same retro style.[IMG]Here is the link to the story and a link to another page with a picture of it in burgundy:http://www.automobilemag.com/a...cept/h ... roz28.com/

I see a lot of the new mustangs on the road, they look pretty sweet. There is something too big about this camaro's nose, but I like the look of the rest of it, kinda goes back to the 1st gen styling. I think the Charger, even as a 4 door, is more like a charger should look like than the GTO, which might be a grreat car but certainly doesn't look like a GTO. What's next, a new Daewoo Chevy Nova? (or did they already do that?) I'd rather they do a firebird and not a Camaro, but at least not both. Why have two cars that look nearly identical? GM is following again. Dodge hit the PT cruiser, GM follows it with the HHR. Ford wins big on the retro Mustang, GM follows with a retro Camaro. Muscle cars are great, and I want one, but where is the fuel efficient model that they need to be developing? Why is the Vibe still the best MPG in the entire GM fleet, is it because GM can't figure it out without using a Toyota powertrain?
I have to agree with you on the mustang (I just like razzing the ford boys ). I love the way they look, I just can't do the blue oval thing. My big complaint with G.M. has always been the catch-up game they play. The whole interior design thing is a big reason why (in my opinion) they lost out in the sales department on the last gen f-body cars. You cant design a car with no interior room and expect it to compete with a car that had relatively the same performance and a much more freindly cabin (mustang). I find it ironic that the company that started it all is now the day late and a dollar short company when it comes to muscle! After all, the 1964 GTO was the first TRUE muscle car......what happened!!!!

Is it just me or did GM include the K.I.T.T. red-light thing in this deisgn (2nd pic)?Looks cool, retro-future styling. I like it. But GM will probably ruin the interior. That's what they are good at.

Very Nice! I want one...especially if it has the K.I.T.T. red light thingy. Just for a little something extra...maybe they should throw in the sound is light thingy made. You have to admit it now...you know your eyes lit up when you watched your first episode of 'Knight Rider'. I know mine did. That car was cool!!!

i wonder if GM will kill the monte carlo with the camaro coming back out. pontiac will likely not see a firebird. i don't think that there should be one neither. maybe the next GTO will share the platform.
I think the above car does not have enough exterior retro styling cues... It has a few. Take the Mustang prodcution car, it screams retro. I do like this car but Camaro, I do not know. Maybe a site in person will change my mind... Here is an article on the subject, I do not have the source it was forwarded to me. Camaro, By The Numbers Rumors of a Camaro comeback have been circulating almost since the day the last-generation pony car was pulled from production. And indeed, a version might have hit the auto show circuit awhile ago had not General Motors Chairman Rick Wagoner pulled the plug. The first design, reveals GM car czar Bob Lutz was unabashedly retro, but Wagoner, "didn't want something that reproduced the past slavishly." So while the version that debuted in Detroit on Monday has the unmistakable "heritage" cues of the classic '69 Camaro, Lutz insists it's a "Camaro for the 21 st Century." Under the skin, GM has turned to the next-generation Zeta "architecture." The automaker cancelled the original Zeta program last year, but rather than calling off the platform entirely, it quietly started over, aiming to drive cost out of the rear-drive chassis. The four-wheel independent suspension on the new version uses MacPherson struts up front and a multilink system in the rear. The Camaro's wheelbase measures 110.5 inches, total length 186.2 inches, with a width of 79.6 inches. In concept form, Camaro boasts a 400-horsepower 6.0-liter LS2 engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. In a nod to modern realities, the Corvette-derived powertrain features GM's Active Fuel Management system, which shuts off half the cylinders when loads are light. A production version would likely start with a six-cylinder engine in a base model going for "just a little more than the Solstice," according to Lutz, which would mean something in the low-$20,000 range. But "any V-8 General Motors produces today is potentially slated for this car." Standing aside the show car, a broad smile on his face, Lutz repeatedly insisted Camaro is nothing more than a concept. Right now. "We have to run the numbers," he added. "We can't just go by emotion. Though if we did, this is the next car I would build." But when pressed, GM insiders acknowledged the odds are extremely high that the concept will evolve into a production Camaro by around the '09 model year.

This is the link for the NAIAS info: http://www.autoweek.com/files/...7.htm Chevrolet Camaro conceptPerhaps inspired by the Mustang’s success, or even the booming interest in classic American muscle, the Bow-tie bunch has deemed conditions again conducive to a resuscitation of its pony car. And while the Camaro exists solely in concept form for now, we expect a production version to follow, by 2009 at the latest. Under the car’s bulging hood sits a Corvette-derived 6.0-liter LS2 V8, tuned to crank out 400 hp and anchored to a Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission. The engine also makes use of cylinder-deactivation technology to increase fuel efficiency. Chevy expects the Camaro to achieve 30 mpg on the freeway.

I caught this today on MSN Autos...http://autoshow.msn.com/as/art...=7648Looks cool . Hope it gets the guts to back up the name and the looks in the production version. I also hope not for a Firebird sibling, but a Trans Am . Firebirds always seemed so stripped down. I want to see a more retro GTO restyling too.In the article, a GM official was quoted in a little slip that makes it seem like this car is likely going to make it into production. I can only hope, because whoever is giving the final go-ahead to most of GM's production cars' styling needs to be kidnapped and released in a remote desert somewhere. For joatmon:the MSN article says that the engine's computer can shut down half of the 8 cylinders when cruising on the highway and that 30 MPG could be possible. 400 HP and 30 MPG in a sweet ride like that? I'll take two please! My only criticism of it is that I don't like the gauge pods. Hopefully a T/A version will have a different dashboard. I was thinking that I'd save up and make my next car a new Jeep Commander with a Hemi, but if they make a sweet T/A version, it's all me.

Interesting reading the comments on the GM Fastlane blog -->http://fastlane.gmblogs.com/ar...mentsIMHO GM's mantra for the past decade or so seems to be 'Follow the leader - we'll be a day late and a dollar short, but we'll go wherever the competition leads'The styling is neither tough enough or pretty enough for my (aging baby-boomer) tastes. IMHO, it isn't brutal enough to be a '69 Z-28, and it isn't pretty enough to be a 'secretary's car' as the many thousands of those 6-cyl Camaros were.IMHO, the 2009 Camaro is just as clunky in it's own way as the Chevy HHR is. I guess the term I'd use is 'industrial' styling.IMHO it has too few retro styling cues that reflect the 1969-Camaro. It has a lot of modern day car styling language, most of it profanity! Why not just put 24" wheels and body-kits on EVERYTHING and be done with it???The whole ends up being awkwardly and significantly less than the sum of the parts. Exaggerated side-sculpturing leading to the over-blown rear-wheel arches, sculptured rooftop, almost-familiar hood bulge, too-sunken headlights, too-small roof side-profile, a too-big and too-curved grille (is it smiling?), and too-large too-squarish tail-lights to name a few. It was probably drawn by the same designer who attempted to redraw the front of retro-look sunken four-headlight GTO. That front end didn't work well, and neither does this one. They desperately need someone who UNDERSTANDS the design language of the 1969 Camaro to massage this concept!

I know that as hard as I might try, I wouldn't be able to do it
I'm not so sure about that. I only say that because of my personal experience with my Vibe GT. I've been a right pedal junkie since I first drove a go-kart when I was about 8 years old. Now, almost 20 years later, I've backed off for the most part in most situations. Having lift available to me in my Vibe was an essential feature for me to purchase it and I do enjoy it every so often, but thinking about it, I really don't use it that much. If I had one of these bad boy Camaro's, I think that the monster power effect would wear off on me after the first few months of ownership and I'd be driving it the same way I have most of my previous cars. You can only accelerate as fast as the traffic surrounding you most of the time, and with the 2nd most elderly population in the US being in Allegheny County, even enjoyable trips on the highway are ruined by grandma in her Malibu or grandpa in his LeSabre clogging up the left lane on the few 3 lane higways we have around here. I think I'd be getting pretty good mileage most of the time.

Before that they had a Duster and made it a 4 door and they called it a Demon. Maybe the demon came in a 2door as well but I don't remember any.
I've always considered the Camaro more of a car that a kid would by right out of High School or that a spoiled kid would get in High School. I don't see a kid getting one of these until his mid 30's.
I don't see many high schoolers buying one either. Like you said, the only high school kids I think we would see driving something like this are spoiled rich kids. I had hot rods when I was in high school (read V8 powered pure American Muscle!), but none were brand new and i did most of the wrenching my self. It amazes me to see these punk kids (and most of the little rich kids act like little punks) driving around in late model mustang G.T.s and LS1 powered G.M. F-Bodys. THATS some responsible parenting!! "Johnny, I know you just got your license yesterday, but here are the keys to your new mustang. I know it has a lot of power but my little baby would NEVER drive this car above the speedlimit...right? Oh, we took the liberty of buying you a set of really cool, and veeeeerrry expensive chrome gangsta killa double helix street scene bustin' rims with some new pistosumokumasi super low profile ultra performance street gripper tires. The dealer had those installed when they put that super dark limo tint on every square inch of glass on the car, and the new super stealth eliminator 86 inch drag wing with 60 inch double tube aluminum strut support. Does'nt that look great, honey? Oh, and dont worry about entertaining your friends, look at the sound system. 50,000 watts of pure premium sound with 10 36" subwoofers, 8 17" plasma monitiors, playstation 360, satelite t.v. and built in soda dispenser! If those pesky police pull you over, just remember we'll pay all of your fines and throw a fit because we know you can't take responsibility for your own actions. That's just silly."****NOTE: The preceeding sarcasim is inspired by real events in pathetic parenting. NO animals were harmed during the production of this sarcasim. Parents who learn to tell their spoiled crybaby kids NO once in a while will be doing those of us who know what "personal accountabilty" and the words "work" and "ethic" can be used in the same sentence a huge favor!*****

I hate spoiled kids driving around in cars they have no respect for. Speaking of spoiled kids, I think A&E is having a series on spoiled daddy's girls (aka brats) yet another show taking up time that a useful one could air.
