salt spray in engine compartment

Post by Raven »

We have a ton of salt spread on our roads almost on a daily basis. My new '06 Vibe has a lot of salt spray dried on the battery, cold air intake and various other engine parts. It seems to be coming through the gap between the headlights and the hood. My '04 did not have this problem. I'm wondering if it is the new front end styling to blame or the fact that I don't have a bug deflector on the '06 filing the gap. Anybody else have this problem?P.S. No wise cracks from you lucky southerners who only see salt in the ocean.

Yep! Northern winter SUCKS! Just rinse it off with a mild water spray and wipe everything down every week until spring. Hehehe! I only clean mine once a month if it's above 30 degrees out.

I have a fair bit on my 04 and spray down the engine bay in the spring. I have also noticed this year a dramatic increase in the amount of salt used on the roads here in Ottawa. I also noticed it is different than in past. I've used more than 2 bottles of washer so far this year.As for your observation, maybe the 06 has more air flow than the 04, which woul dbe a good thing. Also, has your commute changed?Andrew
