Lasik surgery update

I just had my lasik surgery yesterday afternoon. My vision ain't so good right now, and I am wearing suglasses so I can look at the computer screen. Yesterday evening it felt like somebody rubbed soap in my eyes, and I could barely open them. Now some of my vision has returned to where I can see but everthing is blurry, and it feels like I have an eyelash in my eye. They said that by Tuesday that my eyesight should be good enough to where I can go back to work. I hope the end result was worth the discomfort I am feeling now.

I would love to get that done! I tried contacts and they bother me so much. I don't have the courage to go through with Lasik, how was it? How did it feel?

Your eyes will feel like that for a couple days. Make sure you rest over the weekend. I had medicated drops I had to put in my eyes, if you have those make sure you take them and you'll heal quick. The end results will be worth it. I think Lasik surgery was the best thing I ever got.

Please keep us updated... hope your eyes feel better soon (eyes heal pretty fast). I have been thinking about getting that done, just don't have the $$$ to do it right now.

Day three, my eyes feel much better. Almost no discomfort now. Bright lights are still a little intense (wearing shades right now), adn things are still a little hazy. Right now the only things that aggrivate me now are the eye drops, I hate doing eye drops, and I have to do four different ones every four hours. And I can see that the doctor checkups will become annoying as well. I had to go yesterday and now Monday, and Tuesday probably, at 35 miles one way. Oh well better than having my eyes crust over and fall out.

I had PRK laser eye surgery done in July of '03 and i love it, the army paid for it for me...whoo hoo working the army for yet another thing;) don't forget to put the steroid drops in and the tear drops in even though they're annoying because your eyes will scar if you don't and then you almost have to have the whol process redone. Lasik and Lasek are supposed to take at max 5-7 days to be good enough to go back to work, PRK is a little longer at 10-12 days max. atleast that's what they told me.

I had something called Epi-lasik done. The differences between it and regular lasek are the way the flap is created in the eye. Most of the time a scalpel or laser cuts a flap in the eye and then the lasing is done, then the flap is closed. On mine a device pushes the cells over to the side and then are pushed back when done. The recovery time is greater but there are fewer chances for a problem.And the other difference is that the procedure that I chose to do corrects the "higher order aberrations" as they call it. My vision is/was about 20/25 but things were blurry because my eye had pits and ridges like a golf ball that causes most of my sight problems. Those couldn't be fixed with glasses or contacts so my vision was still blurry and regular lasik surgery could not fix that either. I am hoping that I can see well enough to drive by Monday, so i can get to my next appointment by myself. But my true and best vision might not be realized for a few months yet.

Keep us posted on your progress, redlava. I hope everything turns out great for you in the long run. I've been considering this surgery for some time now and am still undecided. The money is an issue for me as well, but is much cheaper over time because of the savings of not having to buy contacts and glasses. I like to wear my contacts when I'm out, and my glasses when I'm working on the computer (like right now ). It would be nice to be able to just wake up in the morning and not have to reach for my glasses just to be able to get out of my bedroom.

I just can't get myself to do the Lasik thing. I tried contacts for a couple months and hated it every single day. I'll just have to stick to glasses for the rest of my life.

My dad had it done, he loves it and recommends it. I just have glasses, the whole contact thing I havent tried yet but they seem like a hassle at times. Maybe after coolege ill look into it.

will Lasik correct astigmatism?i'm near sighted with a small astigmatism!

Yes, because I have slight one as well... or did have one... depending on the outcome. It might depend on which type of procedure you have though.Went back to work today and was talking to a couple of coworkers that had it done and one of them had to have hers redone, and the other had to have hers redone twice. They went to a different place than I did several years before so lets hope better technology and a different doctor will ensure a better outcome. Not really looking forward to the healing process again anytime soon.
