Howdy fellow GenVibe members:I am again raising funds for the Alzheimer's Association by running in the 2006 Chevron Houston Marathon on Sunday, January 15. I apologize for this late notice, but I wasn't sure I'd be participating until this week due to an ongoing injury to my right leg. I won't be setting any personal records, but I do plan to finish.Below is a link to my online donations page. Please take a few moments to read it and perhaps make a contribution. Last year we helped raise over $1,600! While I don't expect to be near that amount this year, every dollar helps families cope with this cruel disease.Thanks!-Glenn, aka ZubenElGenubiMy Donations Page:http://www.active.com/donation...=GRayThe Alzheimer's Association Donation Page:http://www.active.com/donation...athonThe Houston Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association:http://www.alztex.org/Chevron Houston Marathon:http://www.houstonmarathon.comTrack my progress on Race Day here (you must register with a valid e-mail and password, but it's free):http://www.doitsports.com/resu...22484
Best of luck to you on your run! I know running that long so soon after recovering from an injury is no fun. I'm doing a marathon in April and hope to stay injury free until then.I've got a helluva good website for you to check out when you want to start your next run by going for a swim and bike ride first.
Just a quick update...We've raised $595 so far, not including pledges and corporate matching on a few donations. To those of you who have already donated, Thank You!It's not too late to consider donating to the Alzheimer's Association. They don't just do reasearch; they offer valuable assistance for caregivers and patients, as well as education and counseling. My wife's family has been affected greatly by this disease; last year she lost an aunt and uncle within a month's time. Now, on a lighter note...for those of you who've asked...I'm hoping to run 4:45 or better. If my right leg holds up (I'm nursing a tendon injury), I'll shoot for 4:30. If you want to track in real time, go to the Houston Marathon website on Sunday and enter my name (Glenn Ray) or my bib number (5227).Wish me luck! I'll let you know how it goes later Sunday...
Finished my 2nd marathon in 4:53:16..a little over 7 minutes better than last year. The sun came out halfway through the race and really took something out of me. I was hoping to do a little better, but all things considered, I'm pretty happy with the results. At least I didn't injure myself too bad.I can still take online donations (to the Alzheimer's Association) through Feb. 7. Those of you who pledged upon my finishing...I did my part! Here's where you can look up individual race results:http://results.houstonmarathon.com/houston/Thanks for your support!
