Auto Trans. Shift lever

Post by dbuzzelli »

I have a 2003 Vibe, with an auto trans. Does any out there have the problem where the transmission lever does not 'lock'.The button on the lever that usually un-locks so you can put the car in park, neutral etc. does not work. I can move the lever between gears without pressing this button. And i've run into the situation where i accidently hit the lever on the highway, and it shifted the car into neutral.a warranty issue?thanks.

That become a major safety issue!

it can shift into neutral from dirve withOUT the button, HOWEVER it should NOT go into reverse withOUT button. It should also NOT shift lower with OUT the Button. It WILL shift withOUT button from lower to higher and into neutral without button.hope this helps!

I'll have to try it while parked from neutral to reverse, and from higher to lower without depressing.I wonder why it'll shift into any gear without the button depressed?thanks for the new information, i'll see what happens when testing this out.

I bumped my shifter and threw it into neutral the other night as well... That's happened to me quite a bit with this car. That, and kicking the overdrive off because my leg hit the button...I think zionzr2 has explained it perfectly on how it should work.
