Auto Tranny fluid and additives?

Post by Petrucci914 »

Hey,I already dropped the pan on my vibe and put about 5 quarts of new Valvoline tranny fluid that is Type-T IV certified but my tranny still shifts hard occasionally when I really give it. I don't want to end up with a bad tranny like Panic so is there an additive that someone recommends adding to insure the longevity of the tranny? I may pull the plug again and add another 5 quarts but I don't really wanna get it flushed just yet. In my old Toyota Paseo I put in Lucas Oil products in my oil to help with seals, is there something by them I could use? Thanks! 54k miles.

Silly question but are you checking the level when the car is running at full temp? Seeing that you do your own work I probably shouldn't have asked. Here's the best place to find out about additives. http://theoildrop.server101.co...m;f=5
Vibe GT, TRD springs, Progress bar, STB, Unichip, Borbet E 16x7.5, 225/50 Bridgestone RE750, beefed up grounds and battery bypass capacitors(had em laying around)

Have you used any of that Auto-RX stuff? Does that go in the tranny, engine, whatever you want?

Glad to see you're taking a proactive approach on the rough shifting thing. It didn't take long to go from where the problem started to a destroyed tranny, so anytime you guys notice something weird, take a look into it. May my car be a lesson to us all! lol I don't know if there was anything I could have done differently to prolong its life, sometimes if something is gonna go, it's just gonna go... Who knows!I wish I had some advice on what you could use to help your situation though. How did things look when you pulled the pan? Any significant amounts of sharpnel? You may just want to bite the bullet and get a flush done, perhaps it would help you out a bit, I dunno... After what I've gone through, I'll probably be getting that done ever 25,000 miles or so. lol!Good luck! I doubt you'll find yourself where I was a few weeks ago anytime soon though.

Will most places let you provide the tranny fluid if they do the flush? What synthetic fluid could I use? Will semi-synthetic lucas oil tranny fluid work? I know the royal purplse stuff isn't certified. I was thinking of using the lucas oil transmission fix but I don't know if anyone has experience with it. thanks.
