im almost done building my first sub box but need recommendations about how i should go about bracing it.Its only about .84 cubic feet in volume and is pretty small. External dimensions are 14" H14 W15" Bottom Depth8" Top Depth Its something like that I dont remember exactly. Oh also I made it out of 3/4" MDF. I was thinking about just making 16 little triangular wedges connecting 2 sides in the corners would seem easier to me than a more complex cross bar design any recommendations with pics on how to brace this thing or will my little triangles be enough? http://www.lalena.com/audio/faq/build/ has several bracing pics if someone could make a suggestion. I was hoping that the box is so small I could get away with little triangles and that if I screwed up the bracing it wouldnt kill me. Oh the wolfer that will be pushing air is a 12" Alpine Type R 500W RMS.
B/C I often need my hatch space for things other than my stereo, I just went with some of that rubbery place-matting stuff. I don't know exactly what it is called, I know guy's will put it in the box of their truck to avoid tools from flying around and I've seen people put it in their kitchen cabinet's and drawers. I quickly found with my plastic hatch floor that my box was sliding all over hell on turns and I would soonly be running into problems with my wiring breaking off... So instead of the more permanent braces like you are talking about, I just placed the matting under the box so that I can quickly move the box to one side or the other - without a screwdriver... although my box is pretty big and heavy when trying to lift it off the matting...I would recommend doing something this versus semi-permanent braces if you find yourself moving it around frequently.

ya i actually did the non sliding around stuff toolbox grip stuff and it works well.but what im talking about is the internal structure of the box, your supposed to brace up the 6 internal walls with extra wood for better structure which will equal better sound reproduction
Oh well then I couldn't tell ya'... I get all my stereo work done by the pro's... I do competitions so I don't mess around with that stuff. I hit 147.7 with two measly 10" Type R's last year... Didn't think possible with such a simple set-up, maybe it was just luck!

I know one guy running a 2500 watt monoblock to each of his 2 type R woofers loaded into a box with a 9.7 dB gain in the measured range. The system was built STRICTLY for SPL competition and sounds like crap otherwise, the vehicle has been heavily modified for the pressure that these levels can achieve and he has about 400 pounds of mat in the car to kill noise and reduce vibration. The system has one pair of woofers, the Type R alpine, and a total of 5000 watts slamming them and he burbed 144.6....you are claiming 3.1 dB gain over that setup. In order for him to hit your mark he would either need to double his amplifier power (10K watts) or double the woofers for 4 ten inch woofers...just to add the 3dB...I REALLY gotta know how this is possible. How were you measured? Was it a tone burst for a few seconds? Musical power?
Chop it channel it bag it...even a shopping cart can look coolerhttp://www.eblackdesign.com3/10/06 ... Thanks for the good times '03 Vibe GT ... The '05 Matrix XRS now has the honor.
That was my first reading when the stereo was just installed - and it has good sound quality to the system too... Dunno what to tell you - It's what I got and all the guys at the shop were even stunned by the reading. I didn't put much thought or effort into my system and I guess it was just fluke.
