Post by vibedrvr04 »

Well it happened....merry christmas to me....my gift? How about a brand new windshield cause mine just cracked. I got someone to repair it for 214 plus tax. Has anyone else found a similar price? or am i getting ripped off.

I had mine replaced in the summer but my insurance paid for it. It's cracked again. So I guess I'll call the insurnace company after the neww year have them replace it again.

Two hundred installed seems to be the going price nowadays. I am on windshield number three, the first one was $400 but the price has come down now that there are more Vibes around. Current windshield has three large repaired stars and is badly sandblasted, almost time for no. 4.

I had mine replaced a week or so ago, and it set me back about $270 all said and done (shield, seals and labor) - The glass itself was around $155, according to the invoice. For reference, I hit up Safelite for the job.

How many miles are you getting between your replacements?Sandblasting... bah - I blame dumptrucks on the Interstate with uncovered loads of gravel - they ought to be shot.

i got a good sandblasting on the Kansas Turnpike on my way to Colorado!! They had way too much fresh sand on the road and temps were well above freezing at 6am. lots of fresh problems on my paint and in my windshield. Still have original glass. And yeah those uncovered trucks should be banned, however even the covered ones leak big enough stones to cause issues!! Craked a windshield on a taurus with a supposed covered load.

I just noticed something today about my new windshield...it's got a tinted strip that extends all the way to the bottom of that "dot matrix" behind the rear-view mirror. My origional car didn't have a tinted strip. Hmmm...I think I made out pretty good with this new glass

I think thats available on replacement windshields. When the wife traded in her Vibe, the dealership had to replace the window. It also got one with the tinted strip. They used an aftermarket source.

I lucked out the same way, ended up with a way better windshield than I had originally. That lack of tint up there bugged me since day 1... I like the new glass SO much better than the junk that the car came from the factory with.

Of course I had an eyebrow on the window installed when my windows were tinted.

I got my windshield replaced on Friday. A mobile unit did it at my friends garage. He absorbed the $50.00 deductable and still made a $100.00 on the deal. Way nicer windshield too. Tinted on top and a lower black strip on the bottom. I can't believe how pitted the original one was in only 6 months. It looks like there is no glass at all.

I started having windshield pitting (sandbasting) on a 95 model. Also I believe interior noise has increased due to the thin side windows, they are less than half the thickness on my 84 jeep's side windows.
