why do I notice an extra shift at the top in my auto?

Post by madmacs »

Ok, 06 AWD comes standard with the 4-speed auto, but I swear I see an extra shift around 55-60 mph. I've tested this 4 times in a row, and with moderate gas pedal I see by the tach (and feel) it shift a 4th time (making it 5th gear). I start in D, 2nd at around 18-20mph, 3rd around 28-30mph, OD/4th around 43-45mph) and then lo and behold, at around 55 it looks and feels like it takes another gear with a noticeable shift and by dropping 400-500rpm. Am I nuts?

If you want to experience driving without overdrive, you can make O/D inactive by pressing the O/D button on your shift column.

Well, I must be in the right place then! I aways thought they counted the OD in their auto tranny marketing pitch, but I'm not complaining... once again, my expectations are exceeded with this great "best kept secret of a" car
