broken ipod?

Post by northvibe »

anyone ever fixed a broken ipod? or put a bigger hard drive in it? For xmas I wanted to buy a broken ipod mini and then fix it up with a 1gb-4gb microdrive.

Never done this but looking at my wifes, I cannot figure how to get it apart if I had to and without damage as well. Seems like they are more "throw away" devices except for battery replacement...

Apple seals them up really well, so I ended up having to carefully saw the case apart, fix what it needed, and then epoxy the case back together. If you do a search on the internet, you will find all kinds of mods and tips on the iPods, which is where I got the information to do my stuff.

because the 4gb or 6gb drives are 150-200 dollars alone. a 1gb is like 55. I wanted to get it done for about $100 total.

Surely you can get a used (and functional) mini for not much more than that though...with the student discount the Nano is $170 or something like that.

mini's are discountinued and the discound is like 20 bucks off stuff. im getting my parents a new mac mini for xmas the super drive one. used mini's are in HIGH demand and go for 200 and the new ones go for more than the retail price, usually. i dond mind fixing it..its just fun to me to do that stuff, i just need money! dead battery ipods are the best to get as new batteries are like 25-30 bucks. the mini is the only one that can use Compact Flash cards and they are fairly cheap for small ones.
