Performance devices tested.

Post by wicked1981 »

I know people always ask about something they see on tv that says it will increase performance on their car. I dont know if this has been posted but if not here it is. "Can copper tubing, cheap magnets and wacky gimmicks really boost your mileage by as much as 300 percent? PM's Mike Allen puts the latest MPG gadgets to the test..."http://www.popularmechanics.co...1&c=y

I'm curious myself about what is available to the Vibe as far as performance goes. Weather it be getting better gas milage, more 'OOMPH - GET UP AND GO!', or just more over-all HP...I'm such a virgin to all of this. What is available and what actually works and is safe for your car without spending a fortune?!

that was an interesting article. i like how PM actually gave them a chance rather than dismiss them. Kinda funny that the only ones who showed change were the changes which decreased fuel economy

Exactly as I thought. There was a thread on here a month or so ago and the poster claimed to have noticed positive results from one of those gadgets. I didn't believe them and here is a great test to prove what really happens.

Most people want cars with lots of power and lots of MPGs. (or is that MsPG? )

FINALLY SOME PROOF! Good find.I liked the test about the spark plug capacitors...how they melted halfway through the test and started a fire on the exhaust manifold!

But not one of the items we tested worked. At all. There's no ignoring the laws of physics, people. Your vehicle already burns over 99 percent of the fuel you pay for. Less than 1 percent is squandered as partially burned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide before the exhaust hits the catalytic converter for the last laundering. Even if one of these miracle gadgets could make the combustion process 100 percent complete, the improvement in mileage resulting would be 1 percent. Any device that claims quantum-level increases needs to be examined with considerable skepticism. What a fantastic article. Thanks for the link!I recommend it being a sticky!

I did see a increase in power but my Econ. is about the same with the to mentioned. That is to say it did drop below 32 degrees since I put on the new intake which would explain the MPG. It should have dropped. The power is up for sure.

Yeah, but where's that electric supercharger, huh? Ah, they were afraid to test something with that much potential! They wanted to reveal items that were flops all the way around, but these things really, really work! I have three of these on my Vibe and they worked great! 203 HP and 56 MPG! Sarcasm aside, man that's some great reading! Snake oil baby, snake oil! But companies make a killing off this kind of crap... Knowledge is power!I remember hearing this guy on a short commercial type thing on Sirius pimp the Tornado once, saying it really really worked. Yeah. And allegedly, he's supposed to be a "car guy?"

Someone asked about the Tornado gadget and someone posted that they had over a 30% increase in gas mileage in their truck using a Vortex. I posted saying that if that was true, I’m sure the manufacturers would be implementing these into their cars at the factory. I didn’t post in the throttle body spacer threads since I don’t have one, nor do I plan to buy one, but I do believe they are legit products. I did a search and here is the thread that I was talking about: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=18729
