I just saw this on the news and thought it was interesting so I Googled it and found a news article about it.Apparently, someone left his car door unlocked in a parking lot and a would-be thief decided to leave a $15,000 diamond ring in the front seat with a note that said, "Instead of stealing your car, I left you a present," and went on to say that he hoped the ring would be given to someone the owner of the car loved since his own love is gone now. Crazy stuff. The police aren't quite sure what to make of it, and I don't think I would be either if I found that in my car.http://news.bostonherald.com/l...ormat

Whew, I thought from reading the subject, that the "present" wasn't going to be something "desireable," i.e. a big pile of, uhh, well, it wouldn't be jewlery!I feel for the poor guy who got to the point where he had to give that ring up! Congrats to the stranger though.

Wow. Why couldn't there be more people like that in this world. I'm surprised no one subsequently stole the ring from the unlocked car. That would've been ironic.Screams pay it forward though, doesn't it?

maybe from all those jewerly robbings on the east coast , hahahha i bet its the guys GF she wanted it so bad, and he didnt know what was going on so she put it there for him to give to her.. jk, well it was dang nice for who ever did that.

Next question. Is it taxable income?Probably not if it is a "gift" but the donor (person giving the gift) has to file a Gift Tax return if the value of a gift to any one person exceeds $11,000. Any IRS agents or tax experts here?
