my '04 moons/tunes vibe is going in for surgery tomorrow - pioneer avic-d1

Post by iamthekiller »

i picked up the pioneer avic-d1.. http://www.pioneerelectronics.....htmlfor $920 shipped brand new on eBay. i've removed my current stereo but the amount of wires that came with this thing is a little overwhelming. that plus my moons & tunes package has caused me to set up an appointment with circuit city to finish the job for me. i'll post photos/results soon.

If you can wait (and afford it), from everything I hear the Z1 is well worth it. Otherwise, wait a little longer and the D1 is sure to come further down in price. The only bug I have about the D1 is it can't play DVDs. At ALL. Other than the nav disc. But on the plus side, it's WAY more functional than the factory unit ever was.

you know... i haven't heard anything on the price of the Z1.i've read of it being compared to the acura RL nav system. that is a great system. the Z1 also plays DVD audio. haven't seen or read anything about the third generation GM nav systems. the ones that come in the new grand prix. dual disc slots and bluethoot. no dvd audio though. (i think)

Looks awesome, did you need any special parts for the install, the opening in the dash seems wider than the D1 unit. I checked the crutchfield site which claims that the d1 does not fit the vibe.

If you get the standard mount kit for the Vibe, it comes with the parts to either have single-din radios or Double-Din. It's just a slight modification to the kit either way and comes with the instructions for either size radio. No special or extra parts over a regular install (except that the d1 has more 'pieces' to install than just the part in the dash itself)
