Does anyone have any pics of a Roady2 (or any other satellite radio) installed in a Vibe? I don't want to do any mods but would like it to be discrete. I just used a window mount in my F150 but don't want to use that in my Vibe.
I hard mounted mine in the cubby on the center console just in front of the cup holders. You can't see the display as well though. If you search the forums - search for Roady2If you go to XMFan.com you can see some mounts - I found some vibes there. There is a mount that allows you to mount it to the dash off to the right of the HVAC controls. Can't think of the name though - RagingFish had one.
I have a skyfi 2 and this is my most recent mounting solution: Yeah, I lose the benefit of that vent, but since I so rarely have passengers, I can compensate for it using the two far vents aimed towards me.I like this location more than some of my past ones.

YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
I used the adhesive mount supplied by Delphi with my Roady II. Populated InstallMount & Wiring DetailI routed the antenna through the sunroof area. I suppose I could have routed the wire under the headliner, but when I originally did it I wanted to make sure I could un-do it for use in other cars -- since I've made it pretty much permanent. I just picked up a roady2 and was thinking about mounting the antenna right behind the fm antenna on the roof and routing the wire through the hatch. I would like to run it under the seal and then under the headliner, then down to the front somehow, maybe the a-piller? Would this be a good idea. I guess I could add a smidge of weather strip sealer where the wire runs under the weather strip, from the outside, so it wouldnt leak. Would like to split off the main cig lighter outlet also and connect the cig lighter adapter, and hide it all behind the dash. I've got one of those side mounts coming where you mount an adapter plate under the crome trim and it sticks out the side (http://bracketron.com/xmain/manuals/PON-101-02.pdf) . Whats the easiest way to route it from the back, under the headliner (or not) to the front dash? Thanks!
Be wary of the antenna it comes with - it will leave a permanent mark on your paint after a while. So be sure you like where you place it... you won't want to move it.As for your question - I mounted mine just behind the FM antenna, then ran the cable along the side of the weather stripping and then under the strip at the 7 o'clock location looking at the back.I then ran the wire under the trunk (after removing the spare to get a better reach.Ran in under the back seat and under the door thresholds... behind the driver's side kick panel and behind the dash. Still had a ton of wire left, so I ran it under carpet to the center console to where I mounted my Roady2 in the first cubby in front of the cup holders.
Quote, originally posted by Wimperdink » that is the best XM mount i've seen so far on the vibe.maybe some car carpet. the stuff that is used on subwoofers. have you tried looking at audio stores. they should have it.
Quote, originally posted by navydave »Would like to split off the main cig lighter outlet also and connect the cig lighter adapter, I bought my SkyFi2 at _Best Buy_ and them hardwire it rather than use the cig lighter. What I notice is that the unit will power up if I put in in the power cradle *before* I turn the car on and than I turn the ignition. BUT it wont power up if the car is already running and I place the unit in its crade does that make sense?
Thanks... Its covered with a spray vinyl coating.... its a really thin coat to just give it some texture and a vinyl feel. Its a pretty close match to the color and texture to everything else in the car. Just a lil bit smoother feel. Its wider than the xm module so I can install switches in it for future additions to the car without drilling holes in the dash.
well, i like it alot, but i don't like the color. i think it should match the sunroof control module. or atleast the headliner. not black.still a great mount.
Ya, that looks nice. Wish I would have seen that earlier . Maybe would have done mine different. Well, I got my cig lighter adapter wired in, just took it apart, taped the leads direct to the contacts inside, snapped it back together. Then took the leads, stuck then in the hole on the blade connector to the cig lighter, then pushed the connector with the power right on over it, fit pretty decent. Got my antenna installed, right behind the fm antenna on the roof. Just waiting for my bracket to come in to mount off the the right of the hvac controls. I should be able to drills holes right into the swivel mount that came with the roady and just bolt it onto that bracket I assume, or is the mount to cheap to drill into?
Remove the blank lower button under the AC controls. This will give you a flat surface. Mount the Roady there with velcro. No other controls or buttons are affected by the placement, even though the picture may not show that clearly. This is a great location. From the driver seat, the extreme left sider of the Roady will not be easily seen, but that is not needed anyway. All the controls are in easy reach including the tuning wheel.
I tried this with my XM Roady XT: i made something that had the same size as the cig-lighter and installed the support on that. The radio is handy and easy to read even if it hides the A/C knob a bit...
