I'm walking by my car last night in the dark and I ran into the mirror. I didn't even hit it very hard, but I broke the dang thing. The mirror itself is still solid, just the black plastic isn't secured down now. Looking at it, it looks like I might be able to take it off and fiberglass the broken piece(inside) back together... Any suggestions?By the way it was -12 out so that's why it broke so easy.
zion has a good point. honestly, i think you're asking for more work then it's worth...you can probably find a cheap part off a wreck on ebay or car-part.com. It might not be too costly to just go new through partszoneonline.com either.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
I was thinking about the heated element. Or possibly putting on mirrors that fold in, so they don't break when hit.I'll search for some of the other posts on the mirror mods.
Well I just took the mirror off and epoxied the hell out of it. Seems to be holding up fine so far. What broke were the 3 flimsy pieces of plastic that hold the outside plastic to the rest of the mirror assembly.Hopefully it will last a while. If not I'll see what I can find at the junk yard.
Did the same thing a week ago. Very cold day bumped it backing into my parking space at work. Shattered into a hundred pieces. Body Shop ordered me one at $141. He said the hole mirror needs replaced. Now the mirror is on backorder. Is it possible that they have to get the part from Toyota. I have a Neptune 2005.
