Roof Rack Cross Bar Question

Besides removing them completly,what would be the best position for each bar to minimize any drag they may create?Together??? Apart??? Forward??? Back??? Middle???

Together and in the back. The air coming over the windshield is already dirtied when it hits the rack and continues to get muddled as it travels over the car. The crossbars will be in cleaner air if pushed to the front than in the back...
