Stingey STATE!!

Post by zionzr2 »

Well the local news reported that the People of the state of Wisconsin is one of the Stinggiest States there is. Giving only 6% of their income to charities bassed on IRS data. That ranks them 46th. One of the most generous States is Mississippi!

Um, do you mean the state government of Wisconsin is stingy or the citizens of Wisconsin are stingy? Who's the worst? Best?

Could it be that the good folks in Wisconsin just don't cheat as much on their income tax?

Article also said ". . . the majority of charitable giving is done by those at the top of the income scales." So a state that has a lot of really rich people and a lot of really poor people would far better than a state with a lot of average folks.

well it also dosent reflect few other things.for example the amount our household gives is at least 10% BUT that does not show up to the IRS because its still less than our standard deduction so its not reported.or it does not reflect Volunteer Hours for what ever.so like was mentioned its not a very accurate reflection of true giving spirits.

In my personal opinion, and I could be VERY wrong but, you need to look at the geographical location of the top 10 states. The majority of these states are located in the Bible Belt and would probably have higher giving ratios than a lot of states. Here in Memphis alone we have four HUGE churches with a minimum of 10,000 members. The largest church is Bellvue where they have (the last time I read in the paper) over 30,000 members http://www.bellevue.org. I don't have a lot of money but I feel that it is important to give as much as you can. I personally love giving it to all of my animal organizations and the Memphis Mission that helps the homeless. I have given to the mission in every city I have lived - there but by the grace of God go I is my anthem. Again, I could be wrong and I am sure someone will think I am. So please note that this is merely only an opinion and not an official statement. Edit: If you start clicking on the options at the top, Wyoming is the most giving state (they are also #11 on generosity and 21 on having, go Wyoming), Mississippi is the most generous state (and yet they are the least having state...yeah to my neighbors to the South), Connecticut is the most having state (but don't seem to be very generous, hmmm). So these stats may skew my above theory. Oh well, maybe it has to do with the rich wanting to get richer and keep their money and those of us who don't have helping those who don't have? Again, just my own uninformed opinion. This is NOT an official statement.
Just because you see Charlie doesn't mean I am a he....sometimes Charlie can be a she!!!!
