I will be getting a set of Yokohama Avid 225x55x16" installed at Discount Tire Friday morning. The Tech there looked it up and said that they will work just fine. My Contis are almost to the tread wear indicators after just 26,000 miles, so I thought I'd replace them with a better tire that will fill out the wheel wells a bit more that the Stock size.

Ooops Correction. I will be getting 225x50x16" tires. Tech told me that the 225x55x16 would cause problems with the front suspension, possible rubbing due to added height.

The experts say not to go over 3% difference in size. It can cause brake failure. If you want to buy 225/55/16 because they are cheaper, don't do it. The car will handle a lot better with 225/50/16 anyways.

They are 7". I had 225/50/16 on mine for 2 years. It's the maximum for a 7" wheel. He has steel wheels, same width though.

A taller tire simply places more load on the engine since a taller tire is harder to turn than a shorter tire. Vibe engines need all the help they can get. It would be better to stay as close as possible to the original tire height. I put a set of Goodyear TripleTreds (225/50/16) on my Vibe. This height is virtually identical in height as the original 205/55/16. Goodyear says the acceptable rim width range for the TripleTred in my size is 6" to 8". The back of my factory alloys are stamped 16X6.5.

The stock (16" and 17") alum wheels are 6.5" wide not 7". It has always confused me why car makers design their cars with such skinny wheels. Dodge put 17x6 wheels on the Neon and cruiser. The Scion TC has 17x6's. You can only put a max tire of about 205 (maybe 215) and end up with what look like wagon wheels on the car. The Vibe has a 1/2" wider wheel which should allow you to go to a max width of 225 (235 maybe) and have a better looking stance.

Have'nt tried 205/60/16 - they may be a little to tall, but I really like the 225/50/16 TrippleTread, which is the same height as original equipment.

But at least when there is slush and ice on the road i can actually stop with out my abs constantly comming on!

What would be funny to see is a set of old 13" rims from say an old pontiac lemans set up on there. Might be good for a few laughs. I used to have an old 93 lemans and i put some 205/60/r13 tires on it. they looked like balloons on the stock rims but hey, live and learn
