Rocker switches

Post by ColonelPanic »

Unfortunately, one of the rocker switches I have snapped in the dash crapped out. I have two - one for the automatic light disable, one for my under-dash LED's. The one for the LED's died. I used to be able to find switches that fit perfectly in the blanks to the left of the wheel at Pep Boys, but they don't seem to carry that switch anymore. At least the one here doesn't. So, I went out looking for something that would fit in there... Found some here: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/nc...r=361Hopefully they'll fit... I think they will, but won't really know until I get them. Quote »Custom Trim RockerMaintain an original equipment look with these stylish rocker switches. Fits standard full-size cutouts found in many GM, Ford and Toyota. Water resistant construction makes them perfect for marine, Jeep and RV use.I ended up buying a couple with the blue lighting (see attachment.) So, if these fit (and I'll let you guys know when I get them in) these may be worth looking into if you're contemplating adding some electrical stuff and want a switch to fit without any difficulty in mounting the thing..

That's sweet... I would definantly be interested in that.. Although when I put my neon's on I had my blanks CNC cut to fit my switch It looks factory almost... but I also would like to know how to defeat the automatic lights. can you give me a sycmatic or something ? Thanks...

It was pretty easy... Are you looking to get rid of the DRL's and the automatic lights? Or do you want to keep the DRL's but have control over the automatic lights?I didn't want to do away with the DRL's, or even permanently disable the automatic light control. so I wasn't too interested in the mod (it's around here somewhere) that will kill both the DRL's and the automatic lights.I wanted something that was similar to the effect you get when you unplug the light sensor's harness. But I wanted to be able to turn the automatic lights on without pulling the gauge cluster trim and plugging it back in. In a nutshell, I cut one of the wires that go up to the sensor (can't remember which one, but I can look for you) and spliced in the switch. So, you'll flip the switch and just have the DRL's only regardless of lighting conditions. And flip the switch in the other direction to switch the automatic lights back on. I'd say 99% of the time the switch stays on, but on those sunny days when the lights are going off and on constantly, I'll kill the automatic lights. Comes in pretty handy!

I just want to be able to turn my lights off at night if I so choose. I want both the DRL and the automatic lights to still function but I want the option to turn them off also..

Crap. They won't work! They may if the openings for the switches are filed down quite a bit, but I didn't want to try it. So, back to the ol' drawing board again. If anyone knows where I can find the switches like I got from Pep Boys previously, let me know..

the switches do not fit? are they too big??and it would be very easy to mount a switch to turn the drl's/auto lights on and off. there is a yellow wire under the dash i cut to disable mine. taped off the one end and grounded the other. all you'd have to do is just run the one i taped off to power the switch and then the ground. or so i would think? ask raging, i believe he did this to his.

Yeah, those switches are a bit too wide to fit in the slots. They're not that bigger than the ones I did have, but they're just bigger enough to not snap into the opening. Broke one of the switches by trying to jam it in there. lol

Found these... Hit the jackpot, I think. Toyota-style switches for less than what the dealer wanted for one of 'em...http://www.rallylights.com/hel...r.aspOrdered a couple, pretty sure these will fit since they state that they're similar to the Toyota part number... And when googling said Toyota part number, the Vibe site for disabling DRL's comes up.

i wanted to place my switch for my neons next to the illumination controller for the interior lights and instrument panel, however i can't figure out how to get in behind it, the only way i can think of is to remove the vent cover on the driver side vent by the door, but i can't seem to get it off, does anyone know how to do this? if not i need some other good ideas for placement of the switch. This is what the switch looks like:http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/733209/3thanks for any help

Basically, I just open the vent and stick my fingers through the top and pull back... Pops right out on mine, since I've had that piece off several times. It wasn't so easy the first time... Once you get it loose, just disconnect the wiring and you're done. If you're going to mount the switch in the black area, you can pop that entire piece out from the rest of the trim. Just push it out from the back, I believe. If that won't work, you always have the option of drilling a hole in one of the blanks to the left of the wheel and mount your switch there. Those are easy to get to as well, open your storage compartment and squeeze firmly on both sides of the bin and lift it out. Grab the coin holder and pull it straight back, and you should be able to reach in from there (or from the opening for the storage compartment) and pop out the blanks.

The switches came in the mail yesterday. They're the genuine article - they were sealed in plastic bags w/ Toyota on them.I was a bit concerned when I put these switches next to the ones that are too big that I ordered previously. The dimensions to me look exactly the same to the naked eye, and not measuring. But sure enough, there must be a tiny bit of difference, as these snap right into place. And they arrived super quick, considering I ordered them on the 25th, and they came in on the 28th. Shipped priority mail. The grand total for both with shipping was $19.86. Not the cheapest, but they fit perfectly and I didn't have to set foot in a Toyota dealer to order these things (thankfully!!)

Yep, they sure do. I stuck one in there and snapped a pic so you can see what it looks like...If I can figure out what to add down there, I may put a switch in that spot.

Cool, glad that helped. Make some use out of that opening, since I will agree that the coin holder sucks... Makes a good crumb storage tray though. lol! I ripped that thing out and put in a blank in its place... lol! What's the next project you're working on?
