XM Roady2 @ Staples $14.99!!!

Post by spoonman »

That's right!! I guess this is one of those "day after" sale items. Our Staples here in central OH has this price today and tomorrow. There were a few left at the store we were at this evening, not sure about others in the area. I figured it was cheap enough for an impluse buy!!!Check it out if you are interested in getting XM!!!Now... to search around the forums to see how others have theirs installed in the Vibe....

Yeah, I think I am gonna get the home kit for it now. I have had it turned on all day. . :-) Wasn't there some thing that you used to have in your signature that was some XM desktop thing??

Yeah, that's for XM Online. If you're a subscriber you can get free access to it. Go to XMRadio.com and look for the 'listen now' link. Then you need to download XAmp from xampd.imomo.net

this is a heck of a deal! i've been looking into getting xm for a bit now, but still unsure about one thing. i don't have my am/fm radio antenna on my roof because i installed a rack solution that i've placed right over where it was, so it's just the base up there. do you need the regular antenna up to properly run xm? or will i be fine without?also, my main concern is if it's really worth the money. is it really all that great for 12 bucks a month? or should i just stick to my cds?

aftermarket XM uses it's own antenna. You would have to put one on the roof to install it.as for being worth the money, anyone who has it will tell you yes. Unfortunately, the only way you'll know for sure is to expeirence it yourself.

if i did go through with it, i have the '03 gt w/ a 6cd changer. i have noticed on the forums in my searches that this might not work as well with xm, any input?

It should have an internal FM modulator that allows it to work with any setup that includes an FM radio...from my experience with Sirius, that internal one works pretty good and I haven't needed to use my hard-wired one for it at all. That one only gets used for the iPod.

yup... Kari is right... the Roady2 has a built-in FM transmitter with like 10 different "stations" to pick from. It doesn't sound too bad compared to other FM transmitters I have used, but it still sounds better hooked up direct. The thing I found interesting with the Roady2 is that they tell you in the installation book to install the XM antenna close to your car's stereo antenna to improve reception. So apparently is has an antenna internal to the Roady AND it sends the signal out with the XM antanna too to help reduce interference....

so i picked up the roady2, at circuit city for 30 bucks. all the staples in my area were sold out for the week, so i took the next best deal. i'm looking to install sometime tomorrow..but one concern already. from my understanding...the fm modulator won't work unless i have good reception on one of those fm channels, correct? i have taken my FM antenna off the roof for roofrack purposes, so will the wireless fm mod. not work if the fm antenna isn't on there?

You mean your factory antenna right? No you don't need it, because the receiver will be a few inches away from your radio. I think it is even better if your antenna is not on, because you going to have some clear frequencies.

Anything that limits the stations you can choose from, I haven't had good luck with, since they usually won't go down to the 87s and there is something on every low frequency it seems both here and in TN.Since the antenna for the modulator is in the actual XM antenna...does the Roady2 not have a home kit? Is the antenna in the home kit antenna as well? Or, given its name, is it only for the car?Now you've got me wondering if that isn't why my FM modulator works so well with Sirius...the Sirius antenna is about 2 feet from the car's antenna.

installed the roady today, all seems to be going well though i haven't travelled far with it yet. sounds clear enough for me!jaxy- as far as my roof rack..i just put a yakima lowrider set up on the factory racks and i've got it as far back as it can be as i carry longboard's and kayaks up there. it could move forward to put the antenna back up but xm works...and sometimes fm does clearly too without it..weird but good!

Of course, since we both have that JVC modulator installed, it doesn't matter too much... :-)Quote, originally posted by Kari »Since the antenna for the modulator is in the actual XM antenna...does the Roady2 not have a home kit? I think it just basically has two antennas, one being built-in, and the other being the XM antenna. And yes, they do have a home kit ( I just ordered one). I am not how the built in modulator will work, but I will have it connected directly to my stereo in the house, so I won't be needing it.

Theres a couple of adapter setups to direct wire the output to the factory radio. Saw it on this forum,http://www.xmfan.com/viewtopic...+vibeI might try one. I have the standard am/fm/cd with no changer option.
