CB Antenea Mount

Made a little bracket that screws to the inside of the rear door jamb. The magnetic roof mount was too ugly even for me.Just have to wait for my 3' red white and blue (with stars) Firestick antenea from e-bay gets here

i would recomend painting the bracket.i want to see a picture with the antenna in. how about it?

It is painted silver.I'll post a pic of the antenae when the big brown truck brings it. gotta love e-bay

I thought about putting it on the front again, but preferred the look of the side mount (less conspicuous). The reason for the driver's side, to maximize exposure of the antenna coming from signals in front/back on opposite side of road (or oncoming traffic!). It seems to work well as i now maximize range for signals coming from 18 wheelers going in the opposite direction...telling me about any 'bears' up ahead.I don't know if it's too late, but you may want to re-attach to the driver's side of the rear hatch to expose the antenna a little more to oncoming traffic ahead of you?Another good tip is to go to a radio shack and rent a CB Radio Tuner http://www.radioshack.com/prod...amilyand in the parking lot, fine tune the effective length of your antenna (mine has a small hole with flat head inside that i rotate to adjust). Once you've got it set, forget it and return the tuner to RadioShack for a refund/store credit. You won't need it again unless you're doing another install!

Atomb, thanks for the reply. Yep did SWR tuner thing already. For my use this one works great where it is. My biggest obstacle is sending/receiving in the mountains and hills. I talk to the truck drivers on my commute route and am able to copy them fine. We share "cow on roadway" info mostly along with complaints about the price of fuel.We did have it "turned on" while driving thru Nevada on vacation and picked up the local prostitution establishments advertising to the truckers. They were offering a free back rub with every purchase.Your antenna install sounds alot less conspicuous (read less geeklike), looking forward to pics.

sorry it took a day! i forgot to take pictures at lunch yesterday and by the time i got out there again it was dark and the camera phone just doesn't cut it in those conditions...so this morning (as i was cleaning the snow off!) i remembered to take a few pics...I'll take some pics of the inside today (i hope!) showing how i routed the cable down the inside behind and under the rear seat ...out the bottom to the centre console where my CB is stored.

Nice install, it looks like a cell phone antenna. Does that one recommend 18-20 feet of cable like the Firestick instructions. I have 4 extra feet coiled up under the front passenger seat. Don't know how/if it effects transmissions.

the CB i have is actually a handheld unit..but it came with an adaptor. I slide off the battery pack and slide on the adaptor and it has 2 cables, one that has the cigerette lighter jack and the other with the large antenna connector.I then bought the glass mount (it does look like a cell antenna that's about 2 or 3 times longer than it should be!). The antenna came with the length of cable and the same connector as the adaptor with the CB. I know, confusing. I'll try and take some pics soon and it'll all make sense. I'm trying to find it all on the RadioShack website right now but they don't seem to have it anymore. I bought my whole set up in 1998. EDIT: ok...i'm using this antenna: http://www.radioshack.com/prod...earchwith a CB alot like this:http://www.radioshack.com/prod...earchbut without the weatherband (which i kind of wish i had!)i don't think this CB comes with the slide on adaptor (replaces the battery pack) which lets you plug it into the cigerette lighter....i'll get some pictures....

Yahoo...wifey got tired at looking at my 25 year old CB and bought me a nice little compact one. The whole radio (minus a little box mounted under the passenger seat) is in the microphone, it also scans all 40 channels, has weather channels and a bunch of other stuff I haven't figured out yet. Early Christmas!
