Hey all.Happy (belated) Thanksgiving to the folks in the U.S. (dual citizen here - Canadian/American).I have done much research and read a bunch of articles on this site. I have all but decided on a Vibe for my new car (Platinum, ABS, MP3 Stereo, 7-Speaker Upgrade, Power Package, Anti-Theft) and I am in the process of negotiations with a dealer. I have the invoice price for this car with these options and have decided on a fair price that I am willing to pay so that the dealer gets a reasonable profit (I won't post the price here as there are clearly GM employees that monitor this site.). I will have to order this car as the options I want are not available anywhere at the moment so the "Ring & Win" contest does nothing for me (i.e., one must take Jan. 3, 2006 delivery to qualify) and best price is thus my major issue. The dealer has come down to about $300 over what I think is a fair price but won't (for the moment) go lower. I will certainly check other dealers but I was looking for opinions from Vibe owners (especially those here in Canada) regarding what they think is a fair markup over invoice on a Vibe. I know a $300 difference my seem petty. However, given all of GM's problems with sales of late, I am almost certain that my price is fair ... this is just a gut-check.So ... what percent over invoice do you think is a fair markup on a Vibe? Thanks!
Ditch the anti-theft and get something aftermarket. The price you'll pay for the factory anti-theft is a joke, and it's much more worthless than an aftermarket system.

Welcome fellow Ottawa "future" Vibe owner. It pays to shop around. I went to Turpin first and they wouldn't negotiate at all then I went to Hull and got the price down by more than 1,000 then went to Jack May and got my base for 19,300 with upgraded rims before the ring in to win. Each dealer will cross compare their inventory and get you the car based on their inter dealer negotiations. They swap cars all the time. If you know what you want you can call and they can do a deal over the phone. Instant message me or leave your email if you want my contact at Jack May. I've sent him two other people including another Vibe sale but I do not profit by it whatsoever, it's a family connections thing. CheersAndrew
Welcome to GenVibe and I don't think $300 is petty at all. I bought my second '05 Vibe new (the first was used, GM program car) during the "GM Employee Discount" promo on 9-15-05. The window sticker was $20,670 with options and freight. I paid $17,117 plus TT&L. That figures to a 17.2% discount which, at the time, seemed fair to me. Good luck on your negotiations. My wife and I both like our Vibes very much.
i paid 16k -/+ 500$. great deal if it hadn't been for the negative equity on my trade in. i figure i'm going to keep this car longer than 2 yrs. unlike before. best deals are the last yr model in the lot. mine was the last 04 in nov 04. luckily it had everything i wanted in a new car. i don't understand how people can buy a striped down new car. it had all the power options, plus 5 speed.looks like you have specific things you want, that's what will keep your price up. you can always negotiate a price lower when you are willing to take something off their lot.
Thanks to all who replied. I am now the (future) owner of a 2006 Platinum Vibe FWD. I manged to get another $175 off (end of the month negotiation) for a total of about $1200 below MSRP (incl. fees/freight). Which, on a factory order, seemed about as good as it got. We'll see if I get it in time to cash in on the extra Ring & Win cash on top of that ... not holding my breath. The factory order part was my negotiating demise. One definitely has more negotiating power when the car in on the lot and the salesperson gets the commision right away.As a recommendation, I suggest reading "What Car Dealers Won't Tell You" by Bob Elliston. It's a fantastic book and prepares you for all of the crapolla that car sales people throw your way. Excellent for negotiation tactics.Cheers!Mark

I may or may not be back in the market, so I could potentiall have some run-in's with the sharks in polyester. I thought about posting a few questions asking for pointers on certain things, which I probably will do eventually. Lots of good advice here. That book sounds like something I need to read. I know I need all the help I can get. Good choice on the ride, and congratulations.
