What 15" Rims for Snow Tires???

Post by JimD »

I apologize for bringing this up again, but will 15" Pontiac Sunfire rims or Cavalier rims work for 195/65/15 snow tires on a base Vibe. I think I have a lead on some used rims from a salvage yard, but I have to be sure that they will fit properly as the yard won't take them back. Is it certain years that fit?If these fall thru, what internet tire store would you recommend for a 15" steel wheel / snow tire package?thanks in advance,Jim

I'm pretty sure the Vibe has a different bolt pattern than the Cavalier or Sunfire, IIRC... I bought a set of 195/65R15 Bridgestone Blizzak WS50's with steel wheels, it was somewhere close to $500 from Tire Rack when it was all said and done for shipping and all. I was pleased with them, good stuff and it arrived super quick. However, it really didn't snow a whole lot where I'm at last year except for one big storm prior to me getting the things. But they did great with what little we did have and were mighty competent in the rain, much better than the "all season" 16's mounted to my alloys.I just checked Tire Rack's site though, but it is not showing any 15" steel wheels available, not sure what the deal is there...

Nope - Cavalier & Sunfire are different pattern - won't work.If you can find some 15"s from a Corrolla though - those should work. 5x100 is our bolt pattern.

The only problem with Cavalier wheels is that the center bore is too large 57.1mm. The Vibe is 5x100, 38 offset, 54.1mm center bore.

"The only problem with Cavalier wheels is that the center bore is too large 57.1mm. The Vibe is 5x100, 38 offset, 54.1mm center bore." Yeah, it might be difficult to find hubcentric rings with that small of a diameter change. Then again, the Cavalier wheels are designed for "acorn" style lug nuts which will "self-center" the wheel to the hub. Therefore the only issue would be strength/durability of the lug bolts since they will be receiving the brunt of the wheel loads as opposed to the hub. The Vibe uses "mag" type lug nuts which are straight and do not aid in centering the wheel at all. The Vibe wheel is centered by the hub-ring itself. I had a local machine shop open up the center bore of some Vibe wheels to 57.1mm which I then put on my 1988 Fiero GT.
