Upgrade M&T sub

Post by rlfreese »

I want to upgrade my sub and run a seperate amp to it so that I may keep my cargo room in the back and still have a "better than stocK" sound system. What do you suggest in the means of replacing the sub. I have read that it is a 6.5" sub......seems small to me.

the sub in a 2006 bose stereo in a GM truck is only 5" so yours is huge.

Its not the size of the tool - it's how you swing it.The sub is a dual voice coil - long throw driver. Which can move a lot of air efficiently and powerfully. There many others more powerful - but they will take up a lot of cargo room. I have a 12" MTX Thunder 8000 and qlogic box that I used to have in my other car. I haven't felt the need to upgrade, yet. It's just sitting in my basement... Back on topic though, it's been discussed that the sub can be replaced, but I would fear you'd run out of air volume behind the driver - or overdrive a small sub to equal the SPL of the OEM driver. I'm open for upgrades - I wish I had the time and weather to peal off that interior panel to see the guts of this so-called mini-beast of a sub.
