I am thinking of trading the vibe for a malibu with 2.2 L abs, remote start, traction control and all the other options... it is dark blue with gray interior... it is a new 05 model... i want to do this since i do not want to spend too much money on the vibe on the sound system. do you guys think is a good deal? only around 15 bucks more/month...
i hope you are talking about the malibu maxx. cause the "classic" malibu IS one of the ugliest cars on on the road. new cars anyways. plus they have HORRIBLE resale value. you can buy a 4 yr old malibu for like 3k.
Maybe because the Malibu is lower in cost to a G6?

They made both body style Malibu's in '05, the NEW style (which is built on the Opel format chassis that has also produced the Saturn ION, and the Pontiac G6) and the Malibu Classic. Don't get them confused, because the Classic is a POS IMHO. Their resale value does suck. The newer Malibu's are better cars, but their resale value is affected by the older cars. We have had a lot of trim problems with the newer Malibu, but no powertrain problems like the ones that the old one had, (mostly brakes).

my mom has a 05 malibu LT v6, fully loaded with everything but onstar. I love the car, but the front end is sorta ugly. once you own it for a while it sorta grows on ya. the V6 3500 is amazing, she got 36mpg on a trip that was all highway. thing has lots of torq and is quick off the line. i priced a 05 v6 base for like 13-14k. they say the 4 banger gets good mileage but man, i cant see that car with a 4banger being safe, i think it would be too slow (EDIT: with that size of car/weight). the maxx is ugly and the classic is just dumb to even have any more imo. i would only recommend the malibu if you got the v6 3500, go test drive them first before you decide

But for '06 they have eliminated that chrome bar that ran all the way across, and I have to say I think it looks pretty sharp now. Just in sedan form, of course. I'd go for the six too, the tradeoff for fuel economy probably won't be *that* great... I had the crappy last gen Malibu with the 3100 V6, which this new Malibu's V6 is a derivative of. It would move, had gobs of torque way down low and still would get 34 on the highway.. However, I do hope they've resolved issues like the intake gaskets/etc. that plauged the older versions of that engine, like the one I had. I haven't heard as many horror stories about the new model than the last one, so I think they took a step in the right direction.

yea this new 3500 engine should be nice one, ford's making a new 3.5 duratec as well. seems like a good size for a v6 to get good power and mileage. the SS malibu looked good...dunno if they made it or if thats the look of the 06 malibu but i would of got the SS. maybe in a couple years my mom will want to switch cars

The Ion comes from the Delta platform. Also, the Epsilon platform is not based solely on Opel, however, they do use it for one vehicle, much like Saab Pontiac and Chevy do.

Man, you guys are knocking my old Malibu. It was exactly like the black one, straight down to the window tint. I happened to like the way it looked. *cry* Only I can talk smack about my old Malibu! heheheSometimes, I do miss it, although I will be the first to admit it was a piece of crap... It had a lot of crap break on it, but unlike the Vibe, I had no problems getting dealers to touch the thing. The dealer I bought the Vibe from was always willing to throw new parts on the Malibu. Yet it seems like they don't want to touch the Vibe with a 10ft. pole. I dunno. And yes indeed, there was an Oldsmobile version of the last generation Malibu. However, the Malibu was not an Oldsmobile, it was a Chevrolet from the beginning. Around the 1997 MY, Oldsmobile had finally killed the Cutlass Ciera which had been around since '82. I guess they needed another smallish mid-size offering to replace it, as the Alero was a couple years out still. Hence, the Cutlass is born, which came out with the Malibu for 1997. Same car, down to many small details so I guess it was a cheap way for Oldsmobile to buy themselves some time. It had a different grille, bumpers, tail lights, gauge cluster and dash trim. Other than that, it was the Malibu. It was slightly "upscale" of the Malibu if you will, the first year you couldn't get leather in the Malibu, so you had to go see Oldsmobile if you absolutely had to have a Malibu with leather. (removed)! Once the Alero came out, the Cutlass went away, which was around the end of the '99 model year. So there you have it, important information about a crappy car that you never thought you needed to know. (removed)! The Malibu has evolved into something better with the new car, that's for sure.

well where do you think Chevy got the idea for the redsign for the Impalla and the Monte Carlo? answer the Cobalt and the head lights are not that huge nor is the grill they in the right porpotions to make a bolder statment and grab your anttention.
