back up sensors.

Post by mcgusto82 »

well, my wife and i saw a report on MSNBC last night. at the end of it we had both gotten emotional. at over 100 death caused by driver backing over children, and thousands of injuries reported every year. (notice i said reported, i can't imagine on how many other aren't)we both felt the pain parents had. My 7 month old having began crawling a few weeks ago, and for the first time sittin up by himself yesterday. It is time to do my part on the move towrds preventing uneccesary deaths.back to topic, i was looking on ebay. there such a variety on systems. i'm leanning on the one with the 1/4 moon dash display. not really interested on having some big screen sitting on the dash for use only in reverse mode. i want it to look good as be practical.any of you guys have any experiance with thse system? or maybe horror stories with bad products?

Joatmon refused to claim the win and McGusto82 doesn't want it either, so it looks like its going in the garbage.

I have one from DEI that works well, but I need to move the wiring, it tugs on the connectors going into the unit so it doesn't always work right..

Maybe I should invest in one of these. Yesterday I tried parallel parking in between two cars and I ended up hitting the curb twice trying to park all because I have a hard time seeing out the back window. I have a hard time judging how far I am from something while backing up. Both of the "accidents" I have been in involve me backing up. The first was when I backed into another car at WalMart. Second was when I backed into an island (hey it was pitch black and I didn't see it!) and ended up taking the sign down and bending my axle. Those "accidents" were with my previous car.Yeah I should definitely get one of these to prevent an "accident" in the Vibe.

These sensors are those kind of things that you never wish you had - until it prevents some horrible accident.I never gave it a second thought - but I know a relative's tahoe saved a few bikes from getting backed over. (unoccupied)I wouldn't consider it a frivolus purchase...

all you really need is the beeping sensor. i dont mean the one that beeps at the kids like in trucks, but one that beeps with higher intensity at the driver as you get closer to an object. i've seen this system used constantly with volvo and land rover, they just call it "parking asist" no need for some big displays, just some beeping

Most of the ones on eBay have both the beep and the display. You can just mount the display out of sight.. For parking, though..the display is only more accurate than the beeps..

I wonder how long it'll be before we have front and rear IR, optical, and some sort of range finding system like radar or ultrasonic... parking assist, backup collision avoidance, smart cruise control, lane diversion avoidance...Aw heck - just cars that drive themselves so I can get another 30 minutes of sleep on my way to work.

hehe dont worry they got that too. was playing around with it in a porsche cayenne and a rang rover sport. backup camera, distance sesnors, lights at all 4 corners of the car showing u how close you are to everything, beeping and talking sound system .. all that nonsense
