UPDATES on problems (smells, clicking, leaking, starting, paint.. and more)

Post by NSimkins »

It's been quite a few months (I've been busy outside of GenVibe.. work, ugh..), but I finally got around to speaking with Jeff Strausser (former Vibe Brand Quality Manager (read on)). As of June 1st, Jeff is now officially the new Brand Quality Manager for the Cadillac SRX.. kinda like a bigger and more luxurious Vibe. It was a good move for Jeff and as we all know, to those that are familiar, he will be a great asset for the SRX owners out there! If it wasn't for Jeff and all the great members here at GenVibe over the past 4 years now, many of our complaints, suggestions, and issues on the Vibe would have taken alot longer to become addressed and most often resolved in future model years of the Vibe to date. I hope to speak with Jeff's replacement in the near future. I'm told we'll still be in good hands. I was able to get a few updates from Jeff to some pending issues and problems that are active in this forum as of late. Read on for the latest...Surfur/Rotten Egg exhaust smell: Check out this thread for some updated info. TSB's have been out for this issue to be corrected by your dealer. Hopefully your dealer will be cooperative as the cost for this specific repair can be upwards to over $1000 depending on the parts necessary for your model year Vibe. Of course, if under the standard warranty, this is covered.Clicking Window: In most cases, if your window clicks when in motion up or down (power windows), usually the dealer will simply only have to correct the fastener that connects the door glass to the regulator. There is a new washer that will eliminate this noise. Some members had this issue corrected at the 2004 GenVibe Michigan rally last year on site.Starting problem (2005's): This issue only pertains to the 2005 Vibe.. some issues with extended starting times was noticed and a simple recalibration change will need to be done to the vehicle. I was told this issue will not prevent successful starting, but just simply extends the crank time to a few seconds longer than normal (3 to 5 seconds).Water Leaks: If you have a water leak in the vehicle and the moonroof has been eliminated, they've noticed that sometimes the seal on the roof line (called a mohawk seal (sp)) (the black strip on each side going down the top of the roof line) is not applied properly. There may be a few areas that will allow water to get into the cabin area. The dealer will correct this by filling the seal area in question.Paint Problems: Unfortunately they're still aware of the paint issues, and they may have gotten slightly better for some, but still exist even up to the 2006 model year vehicles. I was told that this should be greatly improved for the 2007 Vibes (new paint and/or process maybe?). That's all I was told though...2006 Vibes: 2006 Vibe production will begin at NUMMI around the first week of August. Look for them to show up on dealer lots shortly thereafter. Some may have noticed that production for the Vibe has begun later and later each year to date. The Vibe now seems to be on a normal vehicle schedule as most next-year models are released around the August time frame or later. That's it and all I got for now.. hope this helps!-Nick

Thanks for the updates Nick, does anyone know if the dealer will fix the window issue if the car is out of warranty?? Or does anyone have a step by step to fix the problem?

Do you have any idea on who the new vibe product brand manager? I am so aggravated with my starting problem, I have been in contact with the pontiac customer assistance line, and there is nothing documented on their end. They offered me 2 free oil changes... i didn't accep, and told them it wasnt a solution to the problem. They said leave it with the dealer for a while and have them reproduce it.... its so random that I know its not going to happen. Starting issue happened twice today, both when warm. I wish I could find out what department handles GM/Toyota relations, I would be willing to bet the TSB ECM reprogram is related to the Vibe problem.Chris
