Heat Comes Through Dash Vents Regardless of Switch Setting

Post by Whalensdad »

I have found that in my 2004 Vibe, that regardless if I am on Defrost, Floor, Bi-Level, etc the heat still comes through the vents on the front of my dash. This is a pain as I would like to direct the heat only to the windshield when in defrost or to the windshield and floor in Bi-directional. In fact I only want the heat out of those vents when the switch position is set to the icon with the air blowing in the persons face. Has anyone else noticed this and is there anything I can do to fix it?Thanks,Lee

If you hit the recirc. button on the dashboard it will close the vents. The air won't come through them anymore unless you have that selected on the HVAC.Link to a thread with what sounds like a similar problem to yours.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=19932

no, he is refering to wind coming thru the face vents when he has the air selected for the other positions. seems like something might be wrong. a loose seal or something. mine does it too but very little. i mean so little that you have to cover the vent with your hand to feel it. take it in to the dealer. complain about it till they take a look.again, only if the flow is significantly noticeable.

The outer dash vents (by the doors) flow air no matter what position the dial is in.If the center ones are too - then you might have a problem your dealer should be looking at.

I learned a lot about how this system works when I screwed it all up. If that cable gets out of adjustment, it can easily blow air out of the wrong vents on the wrong setting. I too highly recommend letting the dealer work on it if under warranty. It's an amazingly simple, stone age type setup, but it sure did give me a hard time. Outboard vents blowing all the time regardless of vent selector position = normalCenter vents blowing when knob is on floor, defrost/floor or defrost = something is incorrectly adjusted or there is an internal issue with one of the dampers/etc.

It is the inside vents. When I turn my switches to the positions I indicated, it blows through those. I didn't think it was supposed to. I'll bring it to the dealer, unless anyone knows how to adjust it. Lee

I say that bringing it to the dealer will be your best bet. After screwing around with mine, I still have it all messed up as I noticed this evening. Instead of the center vents, I get air blowing out of the floor vents all of the time regardless of what the control is set to.
