Finally my unichip arrived

Post by iinan »

Much to my suprise my auto parts dealer had my unichip !I can't wait to get this thing in first thing tomorrow.A quick question for someone who has one, should I set the map a/b switch to more aggressive or less aggressive timing?[IMG][/IMG]

Woohoo! I would want to install it right away as well. If I remember from reading about their info that map B is more agressive than A.But I suppose if no one else chimes in you could just try both. I think that the more agressive map requires 91 or 92 octane though, correct?

mine didn't seem to matter, but i had one of the originals, so..... it could be different now. still have yet to retune the chip for Mav's vibe. we'll see what we end up as for performance mods for it. we'll be installing a compustar 2 way remote starter and alarm system soon.

I felt a significant difference in the maps. They're actually the same fuel curve but one has more advance. Both switches in the same position. LED on. Try both, if it responds better at any RPMs with the less aggressive advance, you should get a custom fuel tune. You don't need to reset the battery to change maps. Just do it with the ignition off.

My first impression ???? * sigh okAs I said earlier the installation was simple.. After getting the glove compartment put back together again, I eagerly start the car....It wont start I try again, and it starts !! but I get a CEL. So I turn the car off and reset the ecu and try the other map setting. I go to start the car again, it wont start again. I try a second time and it starts up !! whoohooo !!! well... no. I let the care idle for about 10 min then slowy drive down the alley to the street and start to accelerate. When I hit 3000 rpms the car nearly stalls and wont rev past 3k. I turn around go back to my garage and recheck everything. Now I am questioning my ability to plug in a simple device like this. So I call unichip and the lady asks me what the problem is, after I explain everything to her, she promptly transfers me (dumb Bi%^$). Then I get to talk to a tech who tells me that these are flawless and they ALWAYS work. He puts me on hold to go check a unit in his warehouse. He comes back to tell me that he thinks that they forgot to put a jumper between a blue and yellow wire on the end of this shrink wrapped plug and its causing the MAF to freak out. And if I sent it back they will fix it....(like hell I will). He then told me I can do it myself with a paper clip..So I take the glove box out again and find the wire and do the operation on it, put it all back together and start the car....No cel !!! revs past 3k !!!!!!Wife home for lunch, so now no test spin ! Well maybe later I can actually drive my car. Sorry for the long rant, but I do feel better now

hi iinan,As for my experience with installing the chip. I went with the suggested settings, didn't have a problem other than the Plug 'n Play adapter thing didn't fit quite right. My first test drive was none to stellar but the next day, pulled out of the driveway and chirped my tires... Wasn't trying to but from what I was used to, it really took off. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine. Dave

you should notice a difference. At a rolling start, my friend with his base 04 Matrix with exhaust, cai and unichip against my completely (at the time) stock base Vibe... he walked away from me like I was parked. We were both at the same RPM roughly and in the same gear. You should notice a difference for sure.
