Reseting the computer after an oil change?

Post by domhoff79 »

The question is do I need to? Its a 2005 vibe, and this is the first oil change. The oil change light has not come on yet. I've been looking through the forum archives, and I am not sure as to whether the computer needs to be reset, and if so how, when I change the oil.

I didn't think we had a oil change timer...that would be a neat feature. Some members here use one of their odometers to keep track of that.By the way, Welcome to GenVibe!

On my GTO you press the brake pedal 3 times with the ignition on and the car not running.

The Vibe doesn't come equipped with the GM Oil Life Monitor system.

Well, the Dealership seems to think I do have this system a suggested that when the Change Oil light comes on that i pay them a visit!! Well i hope they dont hold their breath, b/c I dont do oil changes at the dealer. I wont be holding my breath in waiting for that light. I have 17,000 miles and never once have seen any light I can do simple math enough to do multiples of 3K miles to know when my oil needs changed.Quote »Letter reads:At we're dedicated to making sure your 2004 Pontiac Vibe is well maintained to ensure safe and trouble-free driving. Your vehicle is equipped with the GM Oil Life System (GMOLS), and the "Change Oil" light may soon appear. At that time the manufacturer requires the following service be performed:Bring your vehicle in and our Technicians will perform an Oil Change and can reset your Oil Life System for accurate functionality. BTW: i still dont think the Vibe is actually equipped with this device. For some it may be nice, but i dont see the need.
