Does anyone have any idea how to unhook or disable the audio "ding - ding - ding - ding" for seat belts on the 2005s. I read one post a while back that said there are 2 wires and just to clip one, but where are these 2 wires??? Thanks!
I'm happy that they didn't include that warning alarm with the 03's. I only wear my seatbelt about 60% of the time and that would bug the hell out of me.
If it is tied into the air bag system, then there must be a way to remove the dinger/buzzer or whatever it is called - at least I hope so! The dinging drives me nuts. I wear the seat belts 90% of the time, but sometimes remove it before I pull into the driveway or will remove it to get my wallet out of my back pocket etc... and soon as you unhook that darn seatbelt, you hear that ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding. Plus sometimes my passenger will not hook his/hers up right away and immediately the dinging starts.Oh well, in a few years the car manufactuers will have it wired so the car WON'T start UNTIL they are buckled, so I guess this is better than that! I miss my '04! Still love the '05, but miss those little extras that the '04 had (or didn't have in the case of the annoying dinger for the seat belt).
WOW!!! If you don't have the seat belt on/latched - then the air bags will never work!!??? That is really sad - and potentially dangerous in some cases. Pontiac should "re-think" that!!

Pontiac should "re-think" that!! Did you know that if you're not wearing a seat belt, the air bag will actually cause you to go through the windshield even faster because it pushes your body upward and out? So, knowing that, sounds like Pontiac was thinking, because if you aren't wearing a seat belt, you're going to get SERIOUSLY hurt anyway, and even more seriously hurt if the airbag goes off. Airbags are not seat belt substitutes.

Gee-whiz! I sure am happy Pontiac and GM are watching out for us and keeping us from harm. Now, they need to take it to the next step and not allow the ignition to work until the seat belt is latched. Too bad all these older cars - the pre-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding ones - are not equipped like this. They are death traps!

The front seats had sensors to detect weight, and if someone was sitting down without being buckled up, the car wouldn't start. There was a button under the hood mounted to the firewall near the master cylinder to override that feature so you could start the car up for maintenance/etc without having someone in the seat.Does the '05 have an acutal chime, or the cheapo piezo element buzzer that sounds like it came from Radio Shack that the '03-'04 had? I've never tracked down the buzzer to see where it is. You *may* be able to just unplug it, but then you would lose warning for the ignition key and lights. Not sure what impact that may have on other things, though.

That's a possibility... Put 'em somewhere where people won't be able to mess with them. My Malibu had a chime module integrated into the body computer itself.

i wear my seatbelt 100% of the time.. and so do any of my passengers before i put the car in gear...i drive a vibe because in december '03 a little granny zonked out and blew a red light (at 40+mph in a 30mph zone)... leading to my t-boning into her and totalling my little ford aspire (now referred to as the 'expire' ) i was wearing my belt and with the airbag deploying, the car took the blow (see attached photo). I was able to get out of the car on my own 2 feet.Don't let anyone talk you out of wearing the seatbelt or into disabling your airbags (unless for very specific/limited cases)I now enjoy driving my '04 Vibe (a lot!) thanks to the seat belt/airbag.sylvain

[begin seat belt rant]I don't understand why people refuse to wear their seat belt. Ask any EMT if they want to mop you up because you were too cool to wear a seat belt. Some kind of death wish I suppose, nothin to live for and nobody that would care if you die[end rant]Quote, originally posted by ragingfish »I believe, though I can't swear to it, that the buzzer is built into the cluster.I agreeattach is from 2003 matrix manual, don't know what change for 05
I tried this, and it disabled the passenger seat belt alarm in my car, but not the driver's. You must do this when there is no weight on the passenger seat.1) Turn the Car 'ON', but do not start the engine (Leave your foot off the brake). Cycle your trip reset knob until it reads ODO. Turn the ignition back off. Wait a couple of seconds.2) Make sure seat belt is not fastened3) Turn the ignition back on, do not start the car (Leave you foot off the break) As soon as you see everything light up, press and hold the trip reset knob and do a long 12 second count.4) Keep your finger on the trip reset knob. Fasten your seat belt, as soon as you fasten your seat belt, you should see the ODO display go from XXXX miles to "b-on". At that time take your finger off the trip reset knob and press it again. It should cycle to "b-off". You should be all set and turn the ignition off and unfasten your seat belt. Good luck.
The alarm starts as soon as the key is turned. If you are in park and want to listen to the radio or let the car warm up as you are scraping the ice off of your windshield, the stupid alarm sounds if your belt isn't fastened. I always wear my seat belt when my car is moving, but that alarm is the only thing I HATE about the Vibe. This response isn't only for you, but for all of the posters who are making assumptions about the people who hate that alarm.
My problem is that it is so sensitve that even with out a passenger with me when I rest my hand on the seat beside me it will detect that and set off the alarm. This drives me nuts!

But it is a relief not to hear the bell.

I got this from another GENVIBE member. To him I say THANK YOU!!Here's how you disable the seatbelt chime, courtesy of Toyota:Get in the car and turn the key to on (dont start the car) , then change the odometer to display "odo" and not trip A or B.Turn the key off.Turn the key back to on. Within 6 seconds of doing this, press and hold the odometer button. Do so for 10 seconds. Then, while still holding the button, buckle up, then unbuckle. The "odo" display should then change to say "b-on". Let go of the odo button to get it to read "b-off". Then wait for the display to change back to the odometer. That's it - you're done. The car will still beep for 3 seconds when you first turn it on, if you haven't buckled up (the dash light will continue to flash), but if you or the passenger unbuckles IT WON'T BEEP incessantly.Enjoy.
