Hooking up Sirius Sportster to Aux

Post by Stizo »

I just ordered the sportster replay for Sirius satelite radio. I have the base radio and wanted to know if there is a way to hook it up the the aux button. I'd rather not use the FM transmitter since a couple of my friends are saying they get interference. Can it be done or am I better off getting an aftermarket headunit? I'm upgrading the speakers and also putting in an an amp I have from my old car so I am going to try to do this all at once. Any advice? Thanks

I would really give the internal FM transmitter a try before you write it off completely...it works great with my Sportster (without the Replay part), even if there is a station on that frequency. It just overpowers it. You can also get a hard-wired FM modulator that will work even better, but I use it just for my iPod since the internal one on the Sportster is so nice.

Welcome aboard. What year is your Vibe? If you have an '04+ with the BAND button instead of it saying AM/FM, there is an auxiliary input adapter you can get. For the '03, there is no real convenient way to add an input. It can be done if you want to tear into the radio and do some soldering though. Just have a look around this forum, you'll find the info.Like Kari, I have the Sportster as well. It has one of the best FM tranmitters I've seen thus far. I have set it to 87.5 MHz and have never ran into any stations on or around that frequency in my travels. The sound quality is good, and I have also set an equalizer preset specificly for the Sirius tuner and have assigned that to the station preset so it goes back to it each time I tune to that frequency. The only complaint I have seems to be something specific to my car, where I get static each time I have to use the rear wiper. But it does that on ALL fm stations so my car has some electrical issues with that circuit, it would seem. The transmitter is still going to be FM quality, no way around that. But if it works to your satisfaction, you've saved yourself some money.

Thanks for the welcome. I just bought a 2006 base model a couple weeks ago. I've already found a number of things I want to upgrade (need more money)after reading this site.I did search and figure I need a PAC AUX2CAR and PAC AB-GM12 adapter. I'm just a little confused since everyone seems to have the m&t radio where as I have the base. I want to make sure I am not blowing money on the wrong parts. I want the highest quality sound I can get so I would rather go this route than using the FM transmitter. Also I live right in between NYC and Phili so I could imagine the interference I would get while traveling. Pretty much every frequency is taken. I just hooked it up to my home stereo tonight and the difference between a direct line and the fm is noticeable.

Yes, but don't forget that when you're driving in the car there is engine noise, road noise, wind noise, whining passenger & kidlet noise , and law enforcement sirens to contend with. Good luck!

I live very close to you...When I had my Vibe with an XM SkyFi2. I used the SkyFi's built-in FM modulator, and I must say, it was almost flawless. Use the frequency 107.7 on your Sportster if it's an option, I had the best results with that band. I had almost no noticeable interference...and that which I had was so minimal, I could disregard it. You'll be surprised at how well it works.Give it a shot before you decide to spend money on a modulator or aux-in adapter, you might find it does well enough to not warrant another product.

You can put the Sportster on anything between 87 and 108 I believe...and the 87's also work really well because there is rarely anything below 88.1 it seems.
