Proper Tire Care

Post by d_m_kolb »

The products found in this artical can be found at Classic Motoring Accessories. http://www.properautocare.com Clean your tires when you wash the car! Many people put layer upon layer of dressings on their tires but never clean them. The result is a “browning” or “yellowing” discoloration. To clean your tires, use a cleaner formulated for tires. Car wash shampoos are too gentle to penetrate into the tire’s pores and lift out imbedded grime. Products like Eagle One Tire Cleaner, Amazing Roll Off, and Eimann Fabrik Hi-Intensity Cleaner are excellent as they deep-clean without bleach. Bleaches are used in many tire cleaners to whiten whitewalls but they turn tires a dull gray and can stain alloy wheels. After you’ve cleaned your tires you may desire to apply a dressing to accent their appearance. The car care industry provides you with two groups of dressings to choose from:1. The oldest and most familiar group are the oil-based silicone emulsions. These dressings produce the highest gloss but stay slightly “greasy” on the tire’s surface. Eimann Fabrik Black Opal Professional Gloss Dressing falls into this category. It has the highest gloss of any product we offer.2. A newer group of dressings are water-based. These dressings produce a more satin or natural finish but dry completely to minimize dust attraction. Many water-based dressings also contain a UV screen which aids the tire’s own UV absorbers. 303 Aerospace Protectant and Lexol Vinylex are both water-based dressings with strong UV inhibitors.

I noticed that the tire goop put on my tires by the dealer spins off and leaves little brown specs all over the side of my Vibe (and probably on the people following me too). I think tires look better being flat black, not all glossy.

I've used black magic tire gel for a couple of years now and have had no problems with spin off, and it lasts for at least a week. I've found that the gel is a lot better than that spray on crap.
