Help, I'm going crazy. My 05 Vibe stared this incessant beeping at 2 minute intervals. Nothing I have done fixed the problem and its driving me nuts. It does it as soon as the ignition is turned on.Here is what happens: A whirring sound is heard (kind of like what it sounds like inserting a CD in the player) and then a beep is heard. It will continue to do this forever I think. So far its been doing it for as long as I'm in the car with the key in the ignition and on. Anyone have a cure? I'm checking the filter today. My last resort prior to dealership intervention. Of course I'll check here before I do thatThanks,
Where does the beep come from? There is a beeper on the back of the instrument cluster, and then sometimes if you press and hold one of the buttons on the radio it will beep through thte speakers. The instrument cluster beep is what you would hear if you put the key in the ignition with the driver door open. The radio beep is a different tone kind of beep.
I just found out it does it even with no key in the ignition, So it must be doing it all the time. The beep in hard to locate but I think its in the radio maybe. It also sounds like its coming from the back of the instrument cluster behind the glove compartment. Yesterday I tried to disconnect the battery to see if it would reset something but that did not work either, Its still beeping. It only beeps once after the whirring sound but it does it every 2 minutes. No other indications that anything is amiss either on the radia or instrument cluster. It started this just a few days ago out of the blue so to speak
Zuben had my first guess. My second was the passenger air bag indicator... if it thinks someone is in the seat unbuckled. But you mentioned a "whirring" sound - I would guess Zuben is correct, your radio may be acting up.
I'll bet there's something stuck in the radio. When you press the Eject button, do you hear the same whirring sound or is it slightly different?Since you've got a brand new vehicle, it makes sense to take it back to the dealer and have 'em fix it. Me, I'd already be cracking open the head unit trying to find the (removed) causing the incessant noise!
I think the radio gets it's power from the CIG fuse, you could try pulling that fuse and see if the beeping stops, that would narrow down the source a lot.You said the beeping sounds like it is coming from behind the glove box, I think the beeps the radio puts out come from the speakers, not somewhere in the dash.
That's strange. Did you get this car new? I wonder if you have some lovely extra equipment that was installed by the dealer or possibly previous owner if you didn't buy the car new? Security systems/etc?Is this the same beep that you can hear if you hold down one of the preset buttons on the radio, for example? Try that and see if it is the same. Otherwise, the radio is capable of making a chime sound, but that is super loud and comes from the left front speaker. (turn the radio off, ignition on, and press and hold preset #6 to hear it.) But I seriously doubt you're hearing that. Also, see if you can rule out the buzzer for seat belts/key in the ignition/lights on.Do try Joatmon's suggestion. That will get your closer to the answer.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have something for all of you to be mystified about (just like I am). Made appointment at the dealer to have it checked out yesterday. Thursday night the darn thing did it all day long. Got in the car Friday morning to take my daughter to school and guess what, No darn beeping Has not done it all day Friday. What am I supposed to do tell the dealer I got beeping every 2 minutes in my head? He'll call the funnyfarm. Anyway, There is nothing I did that could have stopped the beeping. It disapeared as mysteriously as it apeared 3 weeks earlier. I am thoroughly flamboozled. To be sure I'll keep this site posted on any changes in this mysterious beeping puzzle. And no I am not going out of my mind.........yet. No beeping in my head just rattling noises
That freakin' sucks. Figures the darn thing would go straight just before going to the dealer. If it starts up again - just drive to the dealer, forget making an appt.
heh, I know how you feel.. Every car I've ever owned, whatever strange noises I hear that drive me batty almost never reappear once I drive to the dealer... Makes me feel a few beers short of a six pack, but then again, I think there is some truth to that statment.
