I replied WATER LEAK, but I need to add a disclaimer to that. It only leaks when i run it through an automatic car wash, and it's only a very few drops. Fixing it would be fairly easy, I just keep forgetting to order a tube of Krytox. (Krytox- for those NOT in the automotive business is a lubricant for weatherstrips that makes them swell up; basically it re moisturizes the rubber. Great stuff, just don't fool with it without gloves!)

Do you have a fixation with rear lift gate? You post twice, and both is about the perceived functionality and problems with the rear lift gate. Do you have problems with your Vibe or are you auto designer, consumer researcher or what????

No problems with mine - you really should add that as a choice. I really like the fact that I can open the glass independent of the whole liftgate. It's a great feature.

Bribe our participation with some secret technical tidbit about our cars.Perhaps next poll could be an open poll, so I could vote for:"The Vibe tailgate is perfect and other car manufacturers can only hope to copy from the masters"

I voted water leak too, but I need water leak + rust as a choice. The first two problems that cropped up with my lovely ride were a moonroof water leak and the rear hatch glass leaking, both were probably around from when the car left the factory, but I didn't notice them until around 3,000 miles. In addition to the water leaks, the hatch on mine developed rust only after one year under the weatherstripping, due to the fact that the weatherstripping tends to hold water in against the hatch. Several of us here have had that problem.Anywho, what's in it for us? Absolutely nothing. But I think it's quite cool that someone from a competitor would be interested in coming here to seek our opinions in an attempt to make a better product for someone else. Who knows, I may end up with what they have in the works. When was the last time GM/Toyota/NUMMI showed up to ask us what they could do to make their product better? And we handed them ~$20 grand or whatever.

Oh yeah, now that I think about it. Too bad I couldn't vote twice, I also need to add that it is very hard to close, the liftgate does not latch easily. It requires a bit more force thanI would like to use to close it, and I'd say 90% of the time, I'm not slamming it hard enough to get it to close properly, so it takes a second try.

I've noticed the top metal part of the hatch was rubbing o-so slightly on my passenger side roof rail cap. I removed it and put it back on, that seemed to re-align it. Other than that - no worries. I know in about 4 or 5 years we'll see some threads about how f*&#'n expensive replacement hatch struts are (all four of them!).

A minor problem (more like an annoyance) I've experienced with the lift gate is that the license plate frame clanks and rattles excessively when the gate is closed because it only attaches at the top with two screws and there's nothing securing the bottom of the frame.

No mechanical problems with the liftgate. But ours ALWAYS has a lot of fingerprints on thae paint, at the bottom right under the license plate, from where you push to close it. It's impossible to keep that area clean. I'm not sure what would solve this problem.

Heh...my mom always closes mine by touching the paint instead of using the handle, and I fuss at her every time for it. I also have some nice scratches because sometimes people push the license plate instead, and my plate is bent, so that causes it to scratch the paint with the corners.

But then i'll start driving and when i hit a bump, the interior dome lights flicker! It was actually pretty funny one night...my wife and i were driving and everytime we'd hit a bump the dome lights would flicker on and off...it was like lightening inside the car!I usually have to just open and REALLY slam the hatch shut to solve the problem.
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!
