I have found that when my iPod is connected to my stereo AND is plugged into the cig lighter to charge, I get a hiss from my audio. If I disconnect the cig lighter charger, the music sounds great. I believe it is a ground loop problem but I'm not sure. Any suggestions on how to eliminate the noise AND still be able to charge while playing? Thanks,Whalensdad
my cell phone does the same thing.i've noticed that when using the outlet in the center console, this doesn't happen. or i'm just simply not noticing it.
Same problem here with my phone charger. Unlike mcgusto though, if I plug it in the console, the noise is still there. It doesn't affect FM broadcast stations - just the itrip or the Sirius FM transmitter built into my Sportster. Probably poorly designed power supplies for the stuff we are charging... Needs a filter somewhere, I imagine.

This is most likely a ground loop problem. It happens cause the audio source is grounded to the car in two different places (one- audio connection, two- power connection). The grounds can be at slightly different voltages, so current travels between them through the ipod connections. This causes the noise.Try looking on audio dealer sites for a "ground loop isolator".
