Honda engines in GM cars?

I was reading an article about the new Honda 4 cyl engines and the design change which will have the crankshaft rotate clockwise as opposed to the counterclockwise on all 4 cyl up to 2005 and i read this paragraph:"If Honda was to supply 4-cyl. engines to another auto maker, as it does with V-6s for General Motors Corp. (all Honda V-6s have been designed from the start to run clockwise), the difficulties in mating the 4-cyl. to many components, chiefly a non-Honda transmission, would make such an arrangement highly problematic."Which Honda V6's are used in GM vehicles??G6? SUV?

It's the 3.5 v6. I think it is the v6 in the vue, malibu and the base engine in the monte carlo. It is reported to put out 250 horses. Word is G.M. may be shopping around for other engine outsourcing to.

The Malibu does NOT use a Honda engine. It uses either GM's own ECOTEC 4 cylinder or their 3500 series engines (same as the G6). I believe the VUE is the only car to use the Honda engine.

ah yes i remember hearing about the vue using a honda engine, yea my moms mailibu has the GM 3500 v6, torqy little thing.

What is GM's curent 3500 has a pretty long history: Started back late 70's/early 80's at least (AFAIK) as the 2.8. Somewhere around '88 or so displacement was bumped up to 3.1L. A significant redesign took place in the mid 90's and the engine was renamed 3100, shortly thereafter displacement was bumped up again and that engine was called the 3400. Finally, displacement was bumped up once again, and we have the 3500 in the G6/Malibu/etc.

oh and that cvt tranny :S...that didnt last to long.colonelpanic - your telling me. holy crap that engine is a little devil. 200hp 220lbs torq, man that malibu tears around. good thing my mom has it, it its true evil power would be unleashed on this world I actually was looking into getting the base v6 2004 malibu but it was a little more than i wanted to spend. I love the 2004 malibu (not classic or maxx) but the front end...yuck, the rest of the car is amazing. maybe ill buy it from my mom when i sell my dad the vibe. or just get a mazda speed6 ahhhh the choices

I had two cars with the 3100 (er, 3.1 in a 90 Cutlass Supreme, and a 3100 in a '98 Malibu.) The Cutlass had 140,000 miles, and I swear that engine was just getting broken in. Loved it. The Malibu wasn't the greatest car, but it would get out there and move even better. Aside from the fact that the car had an appetite for intake gaskets (two in 25,000 miles) and some valve cover gaskets, it was alright. Got 34 MPG on trips too, which can be a challenge in the ol' Vibe.

to be clear, the first couple years, the VUE did not have a honda engine. our 2003 has a...um i forgot now. but it not the honda. i believe that showed up late 2004 with the intro of the red line and became an option on the v6 model.oh yea, it was a 3.0L

2004 was the first model year to get the Honda 3.5L DOHC V6. It began at the start of that MY.It replaced the GM 3.0L DOHC V6 found in earlier models.

yea my moms got an olds 88 1988 model that flat gets down the road but front wheel drive back then left alot to be desired. someone told my dad that for a couple years in the eighties there was a high output engine in buicks and olds modeled from GM's racing six. Is there any truth to that cause i got that car stashed in a shed and have thought about breaking it down and building a sleeper hotrod.

Mercury Marine, which was/is a subsidary of GM, NOT FORD, btw.....The 1986.5 Celica GTS used a Yamaha designed and built engine (just a little trivia for ya) which lost 25+ HP the next year when Toyota took over production.

yamaha has/had some sweet engines. they made the engines for my fav. car the Taurus SHO, 3.0 v6, 3.2 v6 and a 3.4 v8.

Correct - it's the otherway around - Merc used the LT[#] engines in their boats - only they removed a lot of emissions and really made those powerplants scream.
