Welcome to the board and to Vibe ownership! My un-official job here is to tell people to use the SEARCH function in the upper right corner of the page. Click there and type in what you are looking for and it will find threads that have already discussed the topic (if they exist). For example, typing in "build date" found this thread:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... ecifically, this post:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... #22076Hope that helps and again, congrats on your new Vibe purchase.
quote:My job here is to tell people to use the SEARCH function.Nova,I'm guessing that is a self-appointed aspect of your job. It's nice that you went ahead and found a link with possible answers for mikey. But if you want to really succeed I suggest simply making the whole website one big SEARCH button. Eliminating the ability for anyone to actually post a question would greatly ease your "job" duty.Oh, wait . . . Posting questions and posting answers and posting commentary is what a forum is all about. So nevermind.Since apparently no one finds out about the SEARCH function until they've screwed up and asked a question that has already been answered, perhaps the SIGN UP procedure could be modified to include a nice mandatory description of the SEARCH feature, how to use it, and where on the page they can find it. Don't let them log on unless they've passed a test on SEARCHing. Why? Cause this is the only forum I've ever seen where the monitor so rudely greets every newbie with what reads like "Shame on you for posting without using the SEARCH function first!" It's a bad thing, and I'm trying to get you to stop it. KSNeptune

quote:How about someone actually answering the question? From the link that Mr. Nova provided above was a post that Mr. Nova provided as follows: Look for a sticker on the drivers door jam. The second line should have the date (MM/YY). Mine says 05/02 for May, 2002. I picked up mine on July 6, 2002 which means the car was anywhere from 1 to 2 months old (depending if it was late or early May when it was built) when I got it. Hope this helps.

I checked mine out and it had a 01/02 build date. I bought mine on 12/2/02 so that thing was sitting around for 11 months. That's got me a little worried. Does anybody know when they started rolling these things off the assembly line? I've had a few minor problems(had to get a new cd player, the instrument cluster rattles to beat hell) so I wonder if the early production will mean more problems later on? Any thoughts.
quote:How about someone actually answering the question? How about someone actually reading the thread I posted above? Here it is again:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... 6#22076How about someone just putting the answer in next time instead of a convoluted "welcome" and poorly "sugar coated" scolding. Just cutting and pasting the answer would have required no more time than pasting those links and writing a bunch of condescending drivel. And I really don't care about the build date, I was only trying to get the thread back to the original purpose instead of the bickering and side taking that was beginning to develop. And that's all I have to say about that!By the way Nova, I like the new avatar.
when you get a new Vibe, there is a lot of excitement and questions. when i first stated using genvibe, i did not even know where the search button was. one thing i did appreciate was that fact that some members would private message me with the answers to my questions instead of telling me to use the search feature. There are many different members at different levels of knowlege on genvibe. we should all go out of our way to help the new members welcoming them to "the online community for pontiac vibe euthusiasts"
I think you can get an idea of how early in the production run your car was built by the last 6 digits of the VIN. I have read that they started the Vibe run at 400001. So subtract 400000 from the last 6 digits of your VIN and find your approximate production number.- EarlP.S. I think it would be interesting to have a chart here somewhere where people could post their VIN sequence number and the build date from the door sticker. Then, we could see the approximate monthly production runs.

There are many different members at different levels of knowlege on genvibe. we should all go out of our way to help the new members welcoming them to "the online community for pontiac vibe euthusiasts" Point number...1) By just giving him the answer, you "feed a man for a day". By pointing out the search feature, you "teach a man to fish, and he feeds for a lifetime." 2) The power of the internet is that it is a great archive of information. Like any other great archive, you gotta search for the answers. This is a basic concept anywhere you go (public library, google, etc), Genvibe should not be any different.3) If the same question keeps getting asked by newbies, it can get very repetitive for those who are constantly answering the same questions. (kinda like a school teacher who has to repeat themselves over and over again cause the kids didn't pay attention the first time) This is both annoying and inefficient.4) having multiple threads covering the same topic drains the resources of the genvibe server. Isn't it better to keep the information centralized and just have people add to existing threads - compared to starting new threads of their own to discuss topics which have already been talked about before? So basically, newbies should be educated in the use of the search feature. Perhaps there needs to be an FAQ included when you register? The new user gets an email with their account confirmation which explains the rules of the board and how to use the search feature.Should we jump all over newbies who obviously have not searched? of course not, that would be rude. However, a system should be inplace to help newbies find the search feature for the reasons I listed above.
