You have a 1ZZ you will not need the water pump pulley. The stock crank pulley has a built-in harmonic dampener to prevent/minimize any vibrations from reaching the engine's interior components. The Unorthodox set you are looking at does not. That has caused problems in the past on some engines. The Underdrive Crank Pulley is a big No No on the the 2zz engines due to oil pump failures. The 1ZZ has not seen that many problems as of yet. Or maybe there just haven't been enought people who have tried it to find out. I am one of those few who will be tryin it out as well. Lancer is another person on here who already had it on his before he went S/C. He found that if you were to use the Unorthodox Crank Pulley and the AEM Tru-Power Alternator Pulley that you can use the stock belt. That is the set-up I will also be attempting in the near future after I get my e-Manage up and running. There is a history of risk in using a crank pulley without a harmonic dampener as it may damage your engine. It is just a matter if you are willing to take that risk. Just to let you know.

I originally went with the Unorthodox underdrive crank pulley and AEM truepower alternator pulley set up. it freed up a noticable amount of power (can't say exactly how much) and made the throttle a lot more responsive, just like a motorcycle. Launching was quicker also, but you'll loose some top end power. With this setup, the smaller crank pulley and larger alt. pulley, you'll be able to use the same stock belt and the oil and water pulley's should be spinning at about the same speed as before.$400! DAMN that's a lot!! I only paid like $140 for both, I think.

thaks for the info. according to GM and toyota the 1zz does not have a harmonic dampener, it is just a noise reduction factor so there should be now damage caused by excess vibration, just a little noisier.

i have heard bad things about the 2zz, but the 1zz has a different setup, it is internally balanced, no dampaner, the dampaner on the 1zz is for nosie not vibration. this si what I have gathered from GM and toyota. somone please confirm this.

Well, just my thought here and I could be completely off but wouldn't the noise that the damper is stopping likely be caused by vibration? And given that, if it's going to cause an increase in noise by vibration it's vibrating your crankshaft. That's going to be hard on bearings, seals and of course, the oil pump.
yes, that would be true. Just sayig that why does toyota and GM say no harmonic balancer, just noise reduction. weird. Just better off staying away from this until there is some proof that they will not cause harm to an 1zz-FE engine.
