Audi A3 coming to North America

Post by old man winter »

Rumors have been circulating for some time about the A3/S3 coming to America and while Audi of America is officially only saying that they are investigating the potential for the A3 in America, some very reliable sources have hinted at a more probable scenario. Apparently the A3 will be coming sometime in 2004 and will only be sold as a 4-door model. Our sources inside Audi suggest the North American A3 will be a "sport brake" motif that is a blend of hatchback and wagon elements. This could be bad news for any potential of an S3 model being offered here as the current generation S3 is only available in a 2-door configuration. We'll have to wait and see if Audi introduces both a 2-door and 4-door S3 model this time around. Expect pricing of the U.S. A3 to start just above $25,000 in the U.SThe new premium sports model in the compact class has now reached the starting line: Audi is launching its second-generation A3. With powerful four- and six-cylinder engines developing up to 177 kW (241 bhp), quattro drive, the new automatic-shift DSG sports gearbox and highly dynamic running gear, it offers all the driving pleasure suggested by the sporty lines of its body. The equipment and trim once again reach the exclusive standard in the compact class that is also typical of the larger models in the Audi range. The extensive choice of engines for the A3 includes three new options. The Audi engineers have increased the size of the highly popular TDI engine to two liters; in addition, this engine now has four valves per cylinder. The 2.0 FSI and 3.2 V6 were recently seen for the first time in the A4 and the TT. All these engines transmit their power either to the front wheels or, as an option, by way of the quattro driveline permanently to all four wheels. Here are details of the complete range of engines:- 3.2-litre V6, 177 kW (241 bhp), 320 Nm (236 ft-lb.) torque- 2.0-litre FSI, 110 kW (150 bhp), 200 Nm (147.5 ft-lb.) torque- 1.6-litre, 75 kW (102 bhp), 148 Nm (109.2 ft-lb) torque - 2.0-litre TDI, 103 kW (140 bhp), 320 Nm (236 ft-lb.) torque.- 1-9-litre TDI, 77 kW (105 bhp), 250 Nm (184.4 ft-lb) torque

I have heard this rumor as well. It actually makes sense since Audi's counterpart VW is entering the and AA markets it would be beneficial for the A to come over and intrude on the upper end Jetta's terrain. I actually like the A# even though I hate small hatchbacks. It is very stylish and comfortable inside. I would look into one. Only one problem is the 25K in Cnadian funds? b/c in the USa an A4 starts @ 26-27K. I would think that the A3 should be around 20-21K to start. It actually would put it up against the Mini Copper and BMW's 1 series that will be out soon.
