A Losing battle with a Curb.

Recently my fiancee was driving my car and caught a curb with my rims leaving a less then appealling set of scratches or more like grooves in my Aluminum rims. Just wondering if anyone has any Ideas on how to smooth these out and bring them back to there original luster. Just wondering. Any help would be apreciated.

Sorry to hear about that... makes me cringe! step 1: ban fiancee from driving the Vibe.step 2: post pics of the damage because us morbid genvibers like stuff like that.step 3: read this similar post - http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...age=1 - although, after re-reading it it kinda got way off topic and turned into some bickering about parent/child responsibilities and stock vs. custom wheels. Hmmmm.... not really very helpful.step 4: consult a professional at a body shop... it can probably be "fixed" somewhat, but most likely not as good as new.

It doesn't look too bad. A good local shop could grind and polish those out, then rebalance. Or paint, or buy a new rim, or live with it.Good luckAndrew

Sheesh, crazy women! My wife has an attraction to curbs too. Thankfully not the Vibe yet, but her Celica has taken a few good hits. I would recommend calling someone like Liver's Body Shop here in Bardstown (502-348-8379). They may not specialize in that, but I am sure they have all the tools to get it fixed. If they can't fix it, maybe they could recommend someone else locally that can. I would definately try them before going to one of the tire shops around (i.e. Big O or Michael Tire). Those guys are strictly in my opinion only good for mounting, balancing, and rotating tires. I would be afraid they would damage the wheel worse than before.See you crusing around sometime, I am in Springfield/Lebanon fairly often...Aaron

I'm actually from Lebanon But graduated in Bardstown Good ole Bethlehem. The Vibe numbers in the area seem to be on a steady rise..

I graduated from Bethlehem in 1997. That's ironic, huh. I actually moved to Bardstown my junior year. Your profile says you're 27 so you were probably a year ahead of me. Your name does sound familiar, but I don't have a yearbook from my junior year to look you up. Still live in Bardstown off of Old Nazereth Road.I do see more and more Vibes, but most are pretty stock with either a girl or an old person behind the wheel. Haven't seen a single one with aftermarket anything on it.

If you have a NAPA auto store near by, they have a deal to fix damage like that. About $100 per wheel. Mine are horrid! (Thank's Hon, I still love you! ) So this is what I'll be doing this winter to ALL 4 WHEELS!

I curbed one of my stock 17's myself. It sucks when you can't blame someone else. So far my orbits are still uncurbed, though my tire dealership did scratch around lugnut holes.
