we know that now and b/c you started this anyway. I am also in this not to leave Zuben alone trying to get this under way and on track eventhough this my fisrt one to organize with some one at all.
Bump! It's just a little more than two months away and we're still working on finalizing and event schedule and offering hotel/restaurant options. Just want to keep it out on y'all's radar....
It would be kewl.. if we could all go to the same hotel and maybe get a group rate... I know I will need a single with a Queen size bed.. for me and my wife... tell me what yall think about it...
Quote, originally posted by NascarXprt »here are some locations of hotels for the meet. i will post the prices and #'s for these hotels soon.this is an old photo but the hotel is there. The images are broke. (EDIT- okay seem to be fixed now)Also- The meet is scheduled from 10-4. Any plans for lunch? For me personally, I plan to be there at 10, and leave by 2 to spend some time in SA with the family. If we could all do lunch, that would be cool. Lunch around 1 or 2 work for most everyone?PS- Per hotel, we plan to stay by the riverwalk, so the wife and son can enjoy it while us Genviber's are rallying....

the group rate sounds like a good idea i'll try to mention it at the hotels all i need to know is how many whould what to do it. i know GMJAP is staying to the river walk and im stay at my home. and for lunch GMJAP we are doing it but im not sure when though. this is goingn to be a blast. cant wait to see everybody there.
Bad news guys.. because of Katrina I am not going to be able to go on the 8th. The Shrimp and Petroleum Festival (oldest chartered festival in Louisiana) has been moved from Labor day weekend (this weekend) to Oct 7-9... And it is in my hometown of Morgan City, LA. I go everyyear and ackualy work part of the festival so I am kinda obligated to go. This was not a problem at first because it was this weekend.. but of course Katrina has screwed up allot of peoples lives and plans... So I regretfully am going to have to decline going to the meet. I hope we can do this again, and will be there if at all possible.. please take a lot of pictures and have a safe and fun trip.
Sorry you won't be able to go, MoonDogg. Frankly, with the dramatically higher gas prices and the devestation of Katrina, I was surprised that you hadn't dropped sooner. Hope you're doing well in any regard.
So, you'd rather have a turkey leg in one hand, a pint in the other, and fine wenches to view? I can dig that.I've already got that T-shirt, though. My RenFest days have passed.
Um....better change that quick! It's down to four days!Too bad the turn out is going to be low. The official weather forecast for this weekend is going to be great. We've got lots of free food and beverages provided by Gunn Pontiac. We'll be giving away door prizes to just about every attendee (genvibe t-shirts, Grafxwerks decals, Pontiac gear). The show must go on...

Turnout may not be stunning, but it's a start. Especially considering the hurricanes and everything. Plus I'm bringing my Dad, who also owns a Vibe (though we'll only be driving mine down).

Not trying to be a post (removed), but...I'm going to do my ground wire install at the meet. I'm making up my own set (like Lancer did a couple years back) and will document it. Should take about an hour.
Funny you should mention speaker wires, 'cuz a friend of my wife just bought a used car that had an aftermarket radio system in it. They didn't want the subwoofer components*, so they're giving them to me!Maybe, I'll bring them along too. Don't know if I'll have time to hook 'em up, but who knows? You game for ripping up some carpeting? * Kenwood KAC-606 2-ch amp (150w into 4ohms, bridged) and a 10" box (don't know the speaker brand).
Quote, originally posted by GMJAP »Uhhh.... was I supposed to have "something to do" to my Vibe for this weekend? No, not at all. But since the ground wire install is a pretty simple mod that a lot of members have (or want), I thought this would be a good opportunity to show other owners how it's done. (or at least get some suckers..ahem, I mean "volunteers" to help out )NascarXprt: I think I'm gonna hold off on the sub. I really need new rear speakers and I'm gonna have to use this amp to power 'em up.
Quote, originally posted by NSimkins »So how was the meet? More like a "get together" NascarXprt, GMJAP and your truly were joined by a couple of Matrixowners.com members (yardman13 and Copernicus). Katrina and Rita took out at least three more attendees. The weather was awesome...beautiful clear sky and cool breeze through most of the day. Gunn Pontiac was great. Craig Menn with "Geared Up" (an affilitated aftermarket installer for Gunn Pontiac) provided lots of space on the lot, plenty of breakfast tacos (yum!) and tons of freebies. Needless to say, everybody got a gift! Thanks to Nick as well, as two attendees got GenVibe T-shirts.NascarXprt did some really neat appearance mods to his car, including painting his grilles (which turned out nice, btw).GMJAP brought his dad along (actually, his whole family, but the rest did the Riverwalk). He's got a very clean ride (and I've got to get those seatcovers).I did a groundwire install with help from GMJAP on prepping the wires. What some describe as a "one-hour" job ended up taking about three! Well, yeah, we were making 4 AWG cables from scratch, but still.... I'll post a separate thread about that.I've got some pics, as do the other attendees. Hopefully we'll get them all together and posted in the Gallery soon.Even with the small turnout, everyone wants to do this again next year. Maybe Dallas...
The meet was great. Wish more people had showed up but glad I went.yardman13 had a Matrix XRS, and took NascarXprt and myself for ride so we could feel "lift". A truly cool guy, he even let me drive it and take it into lift myself! It's pretty cool, like you've got the pedal 2/3 of the way down, then all of sudden you stomp it to the floor.Kudos to ZubenElGenubi for setting it up; he did a great job and Gunn's support was fantastic.Neve have been to a meet of any kind before, I wasn't sure what to expect. But I can now say that I think it's a great idea to plan to do some mods or other work on the ride while there.Zuben- I assume Copernicus showed up after I left? Didn't get a chance to meet him. You guys get together for dinner?Looking forward to your post on the results of the ground wire install. I kind of hated to leave mid-afternoon, but we combined it with a mini family vacation which we all needed and enjoyed.

Yep; Copernicus showed up around 3:30! I had just finished the groundwire install and was about to take it out and see if the car still ran! Cole and I had dinner at Sea Island (a popular seafood restaurant chain in S.A.). He showed me his interior lighting setup (under dash LEDs and Dual speakers w/LEDs). He wired up a great master switch for it all under the emergency brake (he needs to do a DIY post on this...excellent work). I wish I'd gotten pics...looks real good.
i will post a how to on the switch install within these next two days so i can use up what is left of my film(damn disposables). the meet was awsome even though it was a very low turn out. it was great to meet the people behind the genvibe names. look for the install post starting tomarrow. and i cant wait till we do it again.
thanks for inviting me to your meet. I had fun. I enjoyed my first meet. It was nice meeting you guys too. Hopefully I'll be able to attend future meets...
Hey yardman13! Welcome to GenVibe! Not as many members as matrixowners, but not as much "noise" either...I'm still recovering from the "mechanics sunburn" I got working on the groundwire install , but I did have a lot of fun. Thanks for letting me drive your XRS (if you can call my spastic attempt "driving"). I never hit lift; I was too afraid after my "reverse incident" in the lot, IYKWIM.
