Badges very ugly!

Post by Bobtronique »

On the first look, my new used car has a great appearance. After some picky inspection around it I found some ugly artefacts on the badges only after I scratched the badges with my nail. No rust at all on the body. Only on the badges...This the first time I saw badges in that condition (see attached JPEG).What are you suggesting guys?

I'm surprise to hear from you that these badges are made of plastic! They looks like brass (watch green-greyished corrosion) so much with a nickel plating... I was considering removing-painting them and/or debadging totally...I do know yet!

I believe the badges are actually some sort of metal! They are quite heavy and solid... plastic would not corrode like shown in those pics!- RyanGrafxWerks

Maybe there is some sort of metal in the paint that is sprayed on them ?Bob I could send you my badges for free but I don't have the GT and you'd have to scrape the old goo off them and get new 3M tape.

My friends GT did the same thing. his dealer replaced them for free, but he bought the car new from him. and that is definitely a metal type corrosion

Yes they are Fa Ugly! Was out in my driveway with the hairdryer, fishing line and adhesive remover within an Hour of picking up my Vibe. The wife thought I was nutz, but agreed that the Vibe looks much better and cleaner without that crap.

Yes, it is a very good idea to debadge everything. I read those discussion threads before and it is very easy to do so effectively.

This is a good idea too! Thanks Scherry!I went to their website and found very nice suggestions. They have nice replacment overlays. And they are not very expensive too!... Mmmm!Could give a new face to my Rocket...Interresting!

Strange...Isn't it? Plastic won't corrode like that. I'm doubting very much they are made of plastic. Anyway...They will be removed....Debadging is a nice solution.

An other possibility is existing. Pontiac could decide to use an other substrat for their badges. I will see with mine. No choice anyway!

Very good idea ArcsVibe! But my car is still not accessible yet My Rocket will stay in my parking lot eventually. But SAAQ is still requiring the car for inspection which is not done yet unfortunately. For those who are not familiar with Quebec law: A car which is considered as a totally scrap vehicule, needs a thorough inspection by government before its re-introduction on the road. They have to verify every and each detail concerning where technician found replacement parts (origin) what they payed for, how they installed and if they are well installed according to some original dimensions and geometry.Normally, after that inspection, the car should be better than some stock car coming from the dealers.Anyway, your idea make me smile. Thank you very much for your kind proposal. But, I will have to come to the meeting with my Escort...Hopefully, I expect you guys not laughing...Just a joke!Thank you ArcsVibe!

That not my case...Can I say that!My car is a used one. I won't have that chance. But debadging is so simple task to perform. Badges will continue to rust...In the carbadge bucket.
