CAI questions...

Post by Andrew-4ce »

Hello all! New here, just got a 03 Vibe base 5sp two weeks ago.I'm looking for a CAI unit (new or used if anyone has one for sale) and was wondering if the Cosmo units come with a washable reusable filter? Didn't notice it saying on the website and a the shop I spend at is pushing me towards another brand because he said it comes with a paper filter element, this suprised me.Also saw on ebay one by Vertex/Tokyo Engines for the Matrix. It seems to have the mounts/inlets for everything. Anyone used one of these models? Will it work on my Vibe?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVWIn essance except for minor performance percetages won't any brand do the same thing except for the quality of fitment and the filter? So I'm wondering if it's worth it to spend the extra $150-$200 on an Injen or the like. Thanks,Andrew

Yes the Cosmo comes with a washable filter but it must be oiled before the first use, unlike some which come pre-oiled. I had a Cosmo on my '04 and it was excellent. I plan to buy a new one for my '06 and not because it is the only one available for the '06 but because they work great and cost over $100.00 less. The CAI you show on Ebay looks like any other brand name intake. If it fits a Matrix, it should fit the Vibe. I can't beleive the price! Watch out for the shipping to Canada $42.00, what a rip-off. Have it shipped to a UPS Store close to the border and pick it up in the states.

I did notice one thing on this CAI. Does it look backwards to anyone else? If I do recall, the filter went on the end farthest away from the MAF sensor hole and vacuum hookup. Maybe I'm just on crack. But the price is extremely cheap. Looks like any other intake.

I have an 05 with the Cosmo and it is great! Easy fit. The unit on your Ebay link appears to have been assembled backwards for the picture - the bends etc. look right but the filter is on the WRONG END! One of the best things about the Cosmo unit - it has a rubber/nyoprene elbow at the filter end which moves the filter away from the foglight - a problem with fit on many other brands!
