Was at my twice yearly venture into Wal-Mart and thought I'd get a replacement Fram air filter- No listing in the Fram Book for the Vibe. Later went on line - no listing at the Fram website either. Looked up the Matrix and it provided the number CA9482. Why would Fram overlook/ignore the Pontiac Vibe that has been on the market three years now?

Should be the same filter I think ? I've read bad things about the Fram filters on here. You're probably better off getting the Toyota filter from the Dealer.

I had problems too finding one. The Fram book lists the Vibe GT but not base. I wan't sure if they were different so I got one this week from Canadian Tire, CA9482 same as Matrix, I think if was $23 cdn. The book does not list it but their parts inventory did. I'm not a fan of Canadian Tire (sorry I can't think of a U.S. store to express my distrust) but they do come in handy somedays. As for thier quality, I've seen the studies onthe oil filters and Fram filters do not measure up. As the air filter, it was made in Israel, same as my new cabin filter, which sounds odd cause I've never had anything stamped "made in Israel" and within a week I get two! I kept the old to compare and there are subtle difference in profile but nothing major. Anyway, CAI next spring....Andrew
Oops sorry that was the oil filter...I read your post too quickly. The K&N sounds like a good replacement like someone else mentioned. More money now but better filter and should last a lifetime.

Yeah there's a kit that you buy for $10 or something. Comes with stuff to clean filter and grease it I think. Helps catch more particles from what I understand.Maybe if anyone has one in their Vibe they can comment on it. If it affected fuel mileage, etc...http://www.knfilters.com

Andrew I recall that the matrix filter from Toyota is very similarly priced and of course readily available from the dealer.Just curious guys but at what mileage do you replace your air filter? Do you stick to the interval listed in the manual?
I replaced mine as scheduled in the manual and will check out the Matrix price. I got burned at Toyota during an oil change so I've not gone back to the dealer in a while Thanx************** An in-box K&N filter does require oiling and cleaning. It will improve your air intake and HP but only modestly. It will drop your mileage, slightly, but wil save you money on the long run since you will not be buying new filters. It's a simple swap to put one in. I'm not sure of the cost or availability. If you want HP and a "lifetime" filter, put in a Cold Air Intake (CAI). There are many to choose from. I will be installing a Cosmo in the spring, hopefully. Take care when installing a CAI as not to damage your MAF sensor. See other threads on this topic.Hope this helps Andrew, I should get back to work.

Ha, that East coast wit has got me again The dealership made me wait twice as long then said they drove to a GM dealership to get an oil filter and charged me $16 for the filter. Grrr, then I got a speeding ticket cause I was so ticked and wasn't paying attention.CheersAndrew
