A major stom hit last night!

Post by BlueCrush »

Remember my recent thread about the weather being on a strict schedule? Well summer went out with a hell of a bang last night!HOLY CRAP! The storm we had last night was unbelievable. About 7:00pm the sky basically went black, I went outside to check it out, secured a couple things and then saw a giant wall cloud. It looked like tidal wave in the sky. I turned back towards the house and the power went out. The entire neghborhood just went black. The wall cloud was approaching and then there was this low rumbling sound that kept getting louder and louder and I was telling my wife to get in the basement NOW!!! So we got the dogs and ran down as fast as we could. The storm hit and the entire house started to shake. Then I started to hear what I thought sounded like a train, and I am like, OH CRAP! Here we go..... I looked outside and I could not see a foot past the window, it was just white. It stayed that way for 30 minutes straight! The storm finally passed and we went out to survey the damage. I couldn't believe my eyes there was a trampoline in my driveway from my neighbors backyard 2 houses down! Luckily there was no damage to our house. Others weren't so lucky. In the nearby village of Osseo, there is a powersports center that had their snomobiles still boxed in their crates that were being blown down Main Street. And the not so funny thing is that the Tornado Sirens went off just after the storm passed. Just to let us know there was a tornado warning (No $hit!) All said and done, the storm produced staright line winds of 80-90MPH, spawned a couple tornadoes that hit 9 houses away from a friend of ours, 2 inch hail, A billion lightening strikes, and it is estimated that there are over 10,000 trees down in 6 counties and 150,000 people lost power. This is by far the worst storm I have been in. Here is a link to some pics in our area:http://www.startribune.com/images/ss/16 ... to....html

I think we got what was left from your storm here in Michigan today. This place was a massive storm all day. Flooding, huge winds, monsterous thunder/lightning all day.We couldn't go anywhere today because all the roads around my school were 1-2 feet deep under water during most of the storm.

I'm 10 miles West of Chaska - didn't even rain. We watched all the reports on the TV, and could see the black skies towards Eden Prairie, but never had anything ourselves.I talked to my sister to make sure she knew it was headed towards her in Hudson, but didn't talk to her today to see how bad they ended up getting it there. Hope all is well up North der!

Wow is right! I was watching the water vapor loop (because of Rita) and noticed that huge thunderstorm blow up over MN and WI...I was stunned to say the least. I've never seen a single rain event grow so fast.Interestingly, we had relatives in WI call us earlier in the afternoon about our weather and this hit them. They we're nearly hit as bad as Minneapolis and eastern MN.Glad to hear you made it through unscathed; the images look astounding.

yikes! i know this was a pretty bad onemy parents house had the power go out but my friend a couple blocks from them had their power out for 14 hours! and his mom lives on the mississippi, their boat, jet ski and dock were all found a couple miles down stream. Duluth just got dark and a little windy, i saw on weather.com it missed us but the main part was between the cities and duluth.

i know it sounds foolish, but when that happens to me, i cant seem to pull myself away from the window!glad to hear you are ok though. amazing how it nails a house by yours, but just misses you. trampolines are the first to go, they are like a friggin' sail! i remember when i was about 14, watching the roof blow off the neighbors house across the lake, it was amazing.

Still at 65,000 without power as of this morning and many roads still closed due to the number of trees laying in them.
